When last I wrote, I was waiting to hear from Rae. Hear from her I did. My dad was taking a turn to the south, and therefore, I should jump into my car and do the same. I did. I left North Hills (northern Los Angeles) at 11:15 PM arriving at Mission Viejo (southern Orange County) at 12:15 AM. I picked up Rae, and down we went to the hospital ( Read more... )

Sorry for the lack of a report last night; LJ was doing maintenance and I couldn't post.

More and more good news. He evidently went all night with the ventilator in CPAP mode. This morning, they actually disconnected the ventilator for an hour from the trach. tube and used a trach mask instead. This is like a normal face mask where the patient ( Read more... )

Just spoke to Monica, today's nurse. A short report, but a good one.

Remember how last night I indicated he was still in CPAP mode, breathing for himself. Guess what? He's still in CPAP mode! This makes it almost 24 hours of breathing for himself. I'm not sure what the next step will be, but it will likely be lightening the versed to make him more ( Read more... )

And the good news continues: Evidently, my dad has been on "CPAP Mode" all day, and is still on it as I write this. From talking to the nurse, however, this won't be a quick removal of the trach. First, he needs to be more awake, which means dropping the versed, which they will do as he gets stronger and has less pain. He needs to be able to manage ( Read more... )

Just spoke to Christine, today's day nurse. My father is resting comfortably. The orthopedic doctors were there, and looked at his foot. It was getting a little red, so they are putting it in a different type of boot ( Read more... )

Way to go, dad!

I just spoke to Chris, the night nurse; I had spoke to Rae early. The good news is that my dad did two hours today in CPAP mode, where he is breathing for himself.
