Something To Work On
One thing that I've always struggled with is manipulating and editing a draft whilst it is on the screen. This means that for me, I wind up printing out a copy of each draft, scrawling over it in red and then painstakingly retype the thing. This is very cumbersome, for sure. And a little old hat. I'd like to get more comfortable with editing on -
A fight to the death
I'm beating around this draft of an old story right now, and it almost outfought me, but I've decided that I'm going to beat the draft and make it something special. And maybe after the dust has settled and the wounds have healed I'll be a slightly better writer than I was before I attacked the draft. I think that is how it works ( Read more... ) -

I visited Wembley Stadium last Sunday. Watching my home town team slowly lose to a superior side in such a magnificant location seems to have acted as a psychic enema, because I’ve been writing a treat since then.
Can't complain. -
Scratching at the door

Have rough draft, will travel
I think the part of me that I use to write novels that I presumed had shrivelled up and fallen off had in fact just shrivelled up. It seems to be growing back again and I’ve brushed off the manuscript that I thought had killed it for potential revisions. Goodbye, Blue Monday!
Reading Life During Wartime by Lucius Shepard at the moment. I’m enjoying dipping into it. The man has a stunning grasp of language, and the plot is incredibly complex and dense. Probably not for every reader. But a must read for anybody who enjoys ‘literary’ fiction as well as your zap gun adventure stuff. Me? I like a bit of everything ( Read more... ) -
Addiction
I'm having trouble sleeping right now becuase I keep thinking about the Lovecraft anthology and the two Le Guin paperbacks I didn't buy today when I popped into a local 2nd hand book shop. I think I'm addicted to buying second hand books.
