Exactly. Neither John nor Dean was a shrinking violet and it makes sense that Sam would grow up the most hardheaded out of all of them.

Dean has always known what he wanted for Sam, and to hell with what Sam wanted for Sam (end of S2 selfish selfish selfish). But then (like pretty much everything in Supernatural regardless of an individual's biases for one brother over another) that phrase can turn so neatly upon itself (Dean with a happily ever after while you're in HELL Sam, really?? but then Dean did a pretty good job acting like he wanted Sam to gtfo during much of S5, idk).

And I second the love for a "both boys naked but still gen" fic.

that aspect of the boys' relationship -- dean never listening to him, or only pretending to -- gets under my skin and makes me cringe. i hate it. especially after all sam's done to prove that his heart's always been in the right place. i have no trouble believing that sam's thoughts and opninions were slammed shut on plenty when he was a kid, and it doesn't take much for a teen to start believing that's the way it's always going to be. was happy to give that an outlet here.
