Emily wasn't really in search of entertainment, herself. Actually, she was headed up towards her common room, because she figured that she ought to do a little work, at least. She didn't have NEWTs coming up -- but she did have OWLs! And she wanted to be sure that she was prepared, after all.
But she had at least a five minute walk to the common room from where she had started, so she didn't have to worry about that just yet! Actually, she wasn't much paying attention to anything around her as she walked, because she'd let her head sort of float away, off into her imagination as she often liked to do.
It was so easy in Hogwarts, too. They were in a castle, surrounded by grounds and a lake with courtyards and all sorts of secret passageways and rarely used corridors... it was a fertile place for an overactive imagination.
Luckily, as she started up the stairs that Alex was headed down, something in her brain registered a pair of feet coming down, and she managed to step to the side and out of the way before she actually ran into him
( ... )
And... someone had run into him. Almost. Fantastic. It annoyed him, of course, but at least it was a person and that meant someone to talk to, at least for a little while. So, with that in mind, he kept himself from scowling and instead plastered a grin across his face, especially when he noticed it was a pretty girl.
Well, then! This could be a bit of fun, couldn't it? He shrugged a little brushing himself off. "Oh, no worries," he said as he shook his head. "I should have been paying more attention to where I was going!" Sigh. "It's easy to get distracted around here, isn't it?"
Emily smiled brightly when the guy was nice about it. You'd think, with a castle so large, that people wouldn't run into others so frequently! It seemed to happen pretty often, though.
"It is!" she agreed immediately. "The castle is full of so many things to steal your attention... it's a wonder that anyone gets anything done, really!"
Well. She wasn't sure exactly where that had come from, but... it was true, wasn't it? It was true for her, anyway. She found it hard to concentrate for too long with so many interesting things around to fuel her imagination on.
Of course he was nice about it! After all, it wouldn't do at all to be rude, now would it? At least, not at the moment it wouldn't.
Flashing a grin, he nodded. "Isn't it, though? I've never really gotten used to anything around here and I've been here for ages, it seems," he said with a small sigh. Hey, he could play nice and he could play it well. He idn't have much of a reason to be an ass at the moment, so... he wouldn't be. Amazing. "Where are you off to, anyway?"
