It was her typical morning routine, these days. She'd wake up, curled into Jeremy, and laugh at his sleepy sounds of protests as she insisted she had to go study. After about an hour or so of that, she'd finally manage to get ( Read more... )

He hadn't wanted to leave, but... he needed to. Needed to get out for a bit, get away from things, and try to get that image out of his head. Oh, he'd go back as soon as possible, but it seemed as if Dari didn't know what had happened to Kiley. He figured that that sort of news would be best coming from a mutual and close friend, so he'd agreed to meet her in the library.

Hands in his pockets, James swaggered in and looked around, frowning a bit until he spotted the dark-haired girl. There was a bit of a pause as he straightened himself out and took a deep breath before he approached. "... Dari. Hi," he said softly. "I-- hey."

"James." Dari uttered his name softly as she stood to pull him into a warm hug. She held for a long moment, partly trying to comfort him, but also herself, because it had to be bad if he wanted to tell her in person. It obviously wasn't good and she was more than a bit worried.

"Is.. how is she?" she asked a little unsteadily when she pulled back. He looked tired. Or worried. Or.. something not good. "How are you?" she added when she caught sight of that. As much as she adored Kiley and really hoped she was alright, she was also concerned for James right now. He was one of her best friends and she wanted to make sure he was okay, too.

James slipped his arms around her with a small sigh. Oh, the gesture was more than welcome and frankly, something that he needed quite a bit right now. "I-- uh, hi," he said quietly as he looked down at her.

He rubbed his chin for a moment before speaking up. "She's..." A pause. "Not very good, Dari," he said softly. "I mean, she'll probably be out of there soon, but she's still in pretty bad shape. She's..." Another pause. "She's not really talking, but I kind of expected that."

James shook his head. "I'm... I don't know, to be honest."

Dari chewed her lip for a moment, just taking in everything he was saying. Yeah... definitely not good.

"What.. what happened, James?" She looked confused and worried and just a little bit guilty, because apparently while she'd been all blissed out on Jeremy-time, one of her best friends had been getting badly hurt. Maybe it didn't make sense to feel guilty for something she couldn't have stopped anyway, but she did, because it felt wrong somehow that she'd been happy while something like that was happening.

Her heart wanted to break as he shook his head and she unconciously reached for his hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "Can I.. can I do anything?"
