It wasn't 800 at once-it was 800 over the course of the day. But still, it was over 100 at a time (in some periods). And I was able to control all of them outside during the last week of school. Damn I'm good.
I was feeling the same way at the end of the year too and I think a lot of it is reaction to the uncertainty we're facing for next year. I know I have a job and I think I'm going to get real paychecks, not IOUs, but beyond that, things get a little dicey. I know that I have no budget for materials, I'll be buying my own supplies (pencils, crayons, printer paper) and I'll have to beg and whine to get a new cartridge for my printer, which isn't going to get fixed because there's no budget for that either.
Yeah we found out Friday at the end of year lunch that we are losing 2 teachers in order to place 2 who are getting excessed from other sites. Sadness.
On Tuesday of this week I taught Sellinger's Round to about 800 kids.
ShYESS! That is awesome. Although usually for middle school kids I prefer to teach branles, like the Montarde for example. In Sellinger's Round, they actually have to, like, act like partners and stuff!
They are expected to be able to handle partners in middle school-their PE teachers had already taught them West Coast swing. Also since I was dealing with, in some cases, around 100 kids at a time, having them in one big giant circle made management a lot easier. I just had them pick a partner and said "OK, you're partner A, you're partner B" etc. It was much easier than worrying about whether or not we had even numbers of boys/girls etc.

But.....Sellinger's Round for 800 kids! That's like a World Record!!! Call Guiness! (No....not the beer! The book! Did someone take photos?)
