Notes: Just a little ficlet I thought up while in the shower. It's where all the best inspiration hits!
Jayne carried a towel and fresh clothes with him as he headed to the shower. He would have much preferred to bring just the towel, but the Captain had made a rule long ago that under no circumstances did he ever want to run into Jayne wearing nothing but a towel. And so the mercenary carried a pile of clothes and a towel downstairs to the bathroom. A pile of clothes which he promptly dropped as he opened the bathroom door to see River standing there dripping wet and completely naked.
"Uhh..." was all Jayne managed to get out as his eyes locked onto her. She was casually running a comb through her dark locks, and seemed completely fine with him bursting in on her, almost as if she had been expecting him.
She moved her eyes down to his feet and said calmly, "You dropped your clothes."
Jayne stood with his mouth open, and it took him a moment to realize that she had actually said something. What is was, however, he hadn't heard. "Huh?" he asked, still unable to tear his eyes away. Her pale, smooth limbs and flawless skin had taken over his mind, and it was difficult to get out more than one syllable at a time.
"Did you wish to use the shower? I can finish this in my room." River replied.
Jayne blinked. It finally occurred to him that what made the situation so strange was that she hadn't started screaming and fumbling for a towel yet. It was like she was giving him a free show or something. He still had yet to respond to River's question so she shrugged and turned towards the counter, picking up her towel and unfolding it slowly before wrapping herself in it. Looking up at him through the reflection in the mirror, she smiled.
"All yours."
Jayne watched her turn back, holding the towel against her chest, remembering that he had come to take a shower and she was saying, "All yours," because she was giving him the bathroom. He quickly snatched his clothes from the floor and straightened up, taking a few steps into the room.
"Yeah, all mine." he mumbled, glad that he had been able to break his stare.
River nodded and passed him, stopping at the door and turning back. "Oh, and Jayne?"
"Huh?" he asked, not turning to look at her.
"When I said, 'all yours,' I wasn't referring to the bathroom. See you later." And with that, she shut the door behind her.
Jayne whirled around and stared at the door for a minute before a slow grin crept onto his face. He and the girl needed to have themselves a little talk. Followed by a little alone time. But first he needed a shower -- an ice cold shower.
