"This is stupid." Jayne muttered under his breath. He looked up pleadingly at River, who was standing at his shoulder, looking down over his seated form with narrowed eyes. She pointed at the desk in front of him.

"Is not. Go on."

With a sigh, Jayne picked up his pencil and leaned forward over a sheet of paper. The paper already had several words scrawled across it in his messy print, including 'hug,' 'kiss,' and 'caress,' though that one was crossed out a few times before he'd spelled it correctly. "I was expectin' sex, not a spellin' test." he groaned.

River nudged him in the shoulder. "Come on, Jayne. The sooner you stop complaining and spell it, the sooner we can get to more stimulating activities." She paused and smiled. "Now 'stimulating' is a good word. Perhaps I should put it on your vocabulary list."

Jayne moaned and put his head in his hands. "Why ya doin' this ta me, baby? I hate homework! Yer killin' me here!"

"I'm doing it because I believe you should be able to spell words correctly. Is there anything wrong with that?" Jayne just snorted and lifted his head. "Now, where were we?" River continued. "Ah yes, I believe we were getting to the stimulating part. Spell 'intercourse.'"

Jayne hunched over his paper and slowly began to spell the word, saying it out loud a few times to help him along. He paused at the last letter, thought a moment, then added an 'e.' When he finished he sat back and looked over his shoulder. "Well? I git it?"

River leaned forward to see that he had spelled it 'E-N-T-E-R-C-O-R-S-E.' She sighed and shook her head. Jayne's face fell. "So... no sex?"

"You could try again." River suggested.

Jayne leaned forward and looked it over with a frown. "It's that 'e' at the end, in't it?"

River shook her head. "No, that's right."

"Gimme a hint."

"That's hardly going to help you learn."

"Well, if ya teach me how ta spell it, then I'll learn. How'm I s'posed ta learn it if I ain't got a clue how ta spell it?" He looked up at her desperately. River had to admit, he was showing great self-restraint by actually humoring her and not just grabbing her, kissing her senseless.

So River smiled sweetly and sat herself across Jayne's lap. His eyes lit up as he wrapped an arm around her, massaging her hipbone. "I." she stated quietly.

"Hmm?" Jayne asked, having completely forgot about the spelling the moment she had sat down.

"The first letter is 'i,' not 'e.'"

"Oh!" Jayne exclaimed, grabbing his pencil and erasing the first letter, putting an 'i' in it's place. "It right now?"

River shook her head and Jayne frowned. He began moving his lips, silently mouthing the word, trying to find where he'd gone wrong. River caressed his cheek lovingly.

"There's a 'u' between the 'o' and 'r.'"

"Ah ha!" Jayne said, a smile lighting up his face as he scratched out what he had previously written, and wrote the word out correctly. "There! I got it."

River nodded. "All you needed was 'u' and 'i.'"

"Yep, 'you' an' 'I' sounds pretty good right 'bout now." Jayne agreed, waggling an eyebrow at her suggestively.

River giggled. "Would you like a kiss? You must spell it out loud."

"K-I-S-S, darlin'." River kissed him deeply as he ran his hands across her back and down to squeeze her rear end.

River pulled back slightly and said, "You are caressing without spelling it first! That is a violation of the rules!"

Jayne groaned and glanced at his paper quickly. "C-A-R-E-S-S. There, happy?" River nodded and they went back to kissing and caressing. Jayne stood up, pulling River against his chest to carry her to their bed.

"Now, can we git to the S-E-X?

"Not until you spell 'intercourse' out loud."

Jayne groaned and closed his eyes. "Um... I-N-T-E-R-C-O-U-R-S-E?"

"There, now we can stimulate each other."

"'Bout ruttin' time." Jayne muttered, setting her on the bed. "Ya ain't gonna make me do this every time, are ya?"

River shook her head, a mischievious glint in her eyes. "I think not. By the time you spell something correctly, I will no longer be in the mood."

Jayne growled at her teasing and leaned down over her, saying, "I'm gonna hafta shut up that pretty M-O-U-T-H 'a yers, darlin'."
