I told you that Catalan rocks

Well

I'm very proud of being Catalan. Even the institution that preserves our language and updates our dictionary, called Institut d'Estudis Catalans has decided to update the definition of "marriage" (matrimoni, in Catalan) to make it sex-independent. Therefore, the new definition goes from
"unió legítima entre un home i una dona" (legitimate union ( Read more... )

language, marriage, catalan, matrimoni

I don't know. Probably genes after all.
So we are discussing our teeth in comments to such an entry. LOL

By the way, I haven't discovered yet what the procedure is for a change in the Bulgarian constitution. Maybe I should ask my new Bulgarian acquaintance and his friend. http://tilia-tomentosa.livejournal.com/49164.html

Not that anyone would even try to initiate a change of that "a man and a woman" thing at this stage.

Oh, here it's a separate law, called "Civil Code". The Constitution just says that we're all equal and the like. It's quite a modern constitution (1978)

We have the Family Code here, but there is a definition of marriage as "a voluntary union between a man and a woman" in the Constitution too. It is in the "Basic rights and obligations of the citizens" chapter.

I just found the procedure of changing anything in the constitution - it is clumsy, coplicated and time-consuming. And it had to be voted by a 3/4 majority in Parliament.

Response from a friend of mine in California (whose Spanish/Venezuelan ex now lives in London):

“Spaniards pretty much feel about the Church the way Americans feel about Bush/Cheney. Pissed off, betrayed and ashamed.”

Yes, no, maybe?

Not really
This is just Catalan language.

If you ask me about Spain, it's a completely divided country. In one hand there's the liberal, european, left, laic, progressive Spain. On the other hand there's the churchy, catholic, conservative, fascists country.

So it's now a like 51% left and 49% ultra right

But left and right fight together against other nationalities living in Spain, such as Catalans and Basques
