Malfoy Manor: Draco's Birthday

Jun 05, 2009 17:49

There was bustling in the kitchen of Malfoy Manor, but with a human chef for the first time in its history. Not only was Mia putting the kitchen to its first good use in years, she was thoroughly enjoying doing so. She's not used to using spells here and there to aid in her cooking, but since she's cooking so much, she needs a little help ( Read more... )

Outside, all three Apparated to the outside gardens, just inside the gate.

Narcissa was giving a delighted coo at seeing the estate again, and Lucius was nodding approvingly as they walked toward the building. They seemed relaxed for the moment, relieved to see their home restored like it was to something of its former glory.

Mia obligingly steps back and watches with a bright smile.

She might feel a slight twinge, though. While it's true that Draco didn't dance with his mother at the wedding, Mia's never had a father to dance with. Ghaleon was not much for dancing. There was the time she danced with Uncle Rabastan, but that is something decidedly different.

Oh well. Some things just aren't meant to be...

But there's no reason she can't have fun now.

She stands by Lucius, but any cold looks he gives her are met with a smile before she jokingly says, "How unseemly. A lady not dancing and an unoccupied gentleman not asking her."

Lucius raised an eyebrow at that, but remained silent. There were some urgent looks from Draco *and* Narcissa that made him clear his throat however.

"Very well, would you care to?"

Wow, Draco *and* Narcissa? Mia's glad to have the mother-in-law brownie points.

"I would be delighted, Master Lucius," she says, offering him her hand.

It's clear from her smile that she truly is delighted.

Narcissa is the slightly more understanding one, and it's obvious Mia makes her son very happy. That and having him back after being gone so long has softened her dispprovals enough to be more accepting.

Which is great effort on her part.

Meanwhile, Lucius was still stiff but accommodating to Mia as he took her hand. Proper dancing positions.

Mia giggles a little at her father-in-law's form.

"So that's where Draco got it," she comments. "He danced this way at the surprise party his friends and I threw for him a few years ago."

Only there were moments when they were not-so-formal.

Draco twirled with his mum, occasionally glancing over toward his wife with his father.

Lucius simply remarked, "My son was well trained, as I'm certain you have noticed."

"Sometimes all I notice is that I love him," she remarks softly, giving her husband a smile when he glances at her.

Draco beamed back at her as the music continued. The two pairs slowly spinning around the floor.

She blushes modestly but happily.

"How lucky you and Majesty Narcissa must be to have such a wonderful son," she tells Lucius. "I don't know what I'd do without him."

Lucius remarked, "He has rather exceeded our expectations in some ways." Part of him didn't like his son being dragged into matters with Voldemort and the Death Eaters so young. He had hoped the hard business would be done so it could have been part of his son's inheritance. But so many mistakes and changes were made.

"He's always exceeding my expectations, has been since the very day I learned of him. He does so much for me, more than he needs to sometimes, and he puts up with my odd tastes and differing opinions."

A funny little smile.

"He's apparently grown quite tolerant of playing every now and again as well, as was evident in the birthday cake portion of this evening."

"Odd. I should wonder about your influence or perhaps some of the more unsavory parts of the Blacks is coming out in him," Lucius sneered at that.

Namely Blacks like the late Sirius.

Oh, she laughs at that, light and happy. She likes her father-in-law's sneer. It is, after all, the one her beloved has based his on.

"I'm certain the Magic Guild Council at home is debating right now about how Draco is a bad influence on me and, in turn, Vane. But if I listened to them all the time, I would be a xenophobic leader who wouldn't waste my time speaking to the 'commoners' that dwell on the land when I could talk to natural born citizens of my once-flying city. I don't want to live that lonely life anymore."

Another raised eyebrow from her father in law.

"Indeed?" He stiffly replied.

Oh that stiff look is just too much.

She laughs again before leaning up and giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Then she realizes what she did and goes, "Sorry. You just...reminded me a lot of Draco."
