Anyone who admires skillful piloting ought to come sit with me on a March day when the sky comes alive with cloud puffs and buzzards. These birds, I think, are most majestic of all flying machines ( Read more... )

I love birds, too...... & agree completely about their grace. When I was working at a local Lake, I gazed for hours at the geese, & the little bobber fish & tried to figure out who was liking who..... etc, but amazed every time it was corn field/feeding time. They rose & left so graciously. Kind of ugly - their return landings, tho :)

I've seen buzzards, but the old eye sight isn't as good as it was~ when I didn't give a shit. There was a couple of blue herons at the Lake last summer that swooped & glided (glid?) like buzzards.

Thanks for sharing your skies, old friend!

PinkEST {{hugs}} to ya!

Love the picture you "painted" here today. :)

And is your icon a Photo or a painting? It's excellent.

Thanks. It's a photo, I shot it into a mirror. The color is off, but I liked the effect and so left it as it was. Glad you like it.

I love vultures! It does not happen as much as it used to but in the past turkey vultures would always ride the thermals over the fields behind me. When I go to the SD wild animal park they are all over the place soaring or resting on the grassy hills of the compounds.
They have a really nice enclousure with some African vultures which is where I took this shot. Isn't he/she gorgeous?! I love all the raptors but vultures are my fave. :)

That is an amazing bird. All the ones I've seen up close are ugly enough to gag ya.

I agree, the buzzards are amazing to watch. I love watching them float on air currents over the woods around my house. It looks like such fun and brings back memories of my biggest childhood fantasy of being able to fly.

Yes, they do lift the spirits and the imagination. Wow, wouldn't that be a trip to just go up there like they do?

My mother often said that she wanted to be reincarnated as a buzzard for the sheer joy of soaring like that.

I'd sure like to be able to fly like that, but as for being one of them, I'd die of starvation because I would refuse to eat what they eat. Gaak.
