i've been so absent from lj lately that i didn't even know you were pregnant. (obviously congratulations are in order!)

but i wanted to tell you that i'm thinking positive, healthy thoughts for you and the baby. and i wish you all the best (non-pukey) days through the rest of the pregnancy.

Finding ketones in your urine means that your body is 'wasting' (unless you are on a high protein, low carb diet). Since you have lost so much weight and are constantly vomiting, it makes sense. Your body produces ketones as a way to give your body the energy it needs to survive. Your body thinks that it is starving, basically. You may not be metabolizing glucose properly...or your growing baby is taking most of the glucose for developmental purposes and is basically leaving you with nothing. There are many different hypotheses to explain ketones in your urine. Keeping hydrated is a good practice in general but won't necessarily get rid of ketones in your urine. This problem is totally fixable with a little diet modification. I don't know the rest of your diet history/ pregnancy history so I can't really make any recommendations, but that is what I know about ketone bodies being found in urine. I just had an exam on it, acually (haha)...

Hope you feel better! Don't let this worry you too much :)

aw, kel, you're working so hard for bb seaman already. fainting and hospitals are scary enough as it is; i can only imagine how much more intense everything is when you're pregnant.

my friend chelsea had the Hardest pregnancy, and was in and out of the hospital for her first two trimesters. then the third trimester was like, basically a magic flip of the switch. i hope it gets easier for you from here on out, lady. i'm glad they got you on meds and you know a little more about what's going on with your body. sending tons of love your way. xo
