Whither All Day Games?

Seriously, what is the attraction of a game that takes 12 hours to play? There were a couple games in progress when I arrived at Game Days at 10am...they were still playing the same damn games at 8pm with no sign of end. And there were dozens of games played that took 4 to 8 hours. Really, what is the attraction? I don't get it.
