Women are either frigid or sluts. If we're friendly at first, and later decide we need to back off, we're teases. (Though the female contradiction tends to be more widely adknowledged than the male.)

There's a theoretical middle ground where you don't piss anyone off - unfortunately the location of that ground is different for each person, and more resembles a tightrope for some.

I once thought I could get around this whole mess just by acting honestly, taking people at face value, and asking people to take me in the same way. Unfortunately a disturbingly large proportion of humanity seems constitutionally unable to believe that you might actually speak and act in accordance with your beliefs.

In short, (most) people suck.

I actually came in here to ask to join sexual_ritual, but first... it's not only the male that prowls, believe me. As for the on/off modes, sounds pretty much par for the course IME - I just wish you luck in finding someone some day who matches your needs and that you match theirs.
