Being so close to graduation puts everything into perspective. I've increasingly found I can only form a coherent explanation of my emotional reactions when those trials are past, and that's rather true of the last four years. (Though they're not fully past yet. I have a feeling I'll think of a lot more to say on the subject after I graduate

And all 3 of us in the room did say that it was the institution's fault, Sonya. In fact we made it quite clear. Maybe you were just too annoyed at the prospect of some people not hating it as much as you did to have bothered listening. We just also said that the school was making strides to improve the first year experience (it has, and continues to), that those who have gone through a proper first-year-centred experience generally like it (as all three of us had), and that your venting about the system was valid.

Second of all, that's what you said. Julie said it's because I didn't go out of my way to connect with the prof at the front of a class of 1000 people. I suffered from horrible social anxiety in my first two years, and that wasn't even an option. But the U of T way of thinking is that the responsibility is on my own head to connect with the school, rather than on the school to connect with a student too terrified to do something like that. Therefore, most students who aren't brimming over with confidence (which is most people outside of the Vic bubble) slip through the cracks ( ... )
