WATER BABBY 2: RETURN OF THE WATER BABBYI don't understand why the nerve endings that make uterine contractions hurt haven't been selected against. I mean, heart and diaphragm and stomach contractions don't hurt, and that's not even touching on voluntary muscles. And you'd think it would be a disadvantageous trait in the wild for some women to be ( Read more... )

I... assume the fact that early female humans were pregnant all the time might have something to do with it, even though the state of pregnancy isn't particularly advantageous to the species' fitness: pregnant women are slow and their cries for double strawberry fudge ripple ice cream before it was even invented would surely call the sabretooths to their camps. 8Db

Actually there is reasonable evidence that early human women practiced a number of methods to avoid being pregnant all the time, including breastfeeding for a longer period of time, early abortion, and primitive birth control of some sort. The archaeological record seems to show that during the hunting-and-gathering period, women typically spaced out their children -- if they had any -- by about four to five years. The pregnant and barefoot phenomenon is actually a consequence of settled agrarian culture! Even then, women usually found various ways to space out their childbearing enough to make it adaptable.

Uhm ... /random dump of shit I learned last year in school that I never get a chance to talk about fna;slkfdjf

WHICH THEN makes you wonder why female bodies can get pregnant so often in the first place.

............. I just typed 'why female bodies can pregnant so often.'

LOLOLOLO THIS IS A DAMN GOOD POINT. Life would be easier if we just had periods of heat! Though idk if that would mean that nobody would be interested in sex outside of those periods. I suspect society would be a lot more peaceful but a lot less sexually pleasurable in that case. Baw ( ... )

IT PROBABLY ACTUALLY HAS TO DO MORE WITH HEALTHY DIET AND EXERCISE. Human bodies that are at healthy stasis and operating as they evolved to do are somewhat less likely to cramp up the way ours do. Also as I understand it, the monthly thing is somewhat less of an issue in Asian culture (part of the reason I know my cramps have gotten worse is because I eat like shit and definitely haven't been following the correct balance of hot/cool wet/dry foods, and because I don't have access to the right food during menstruation), and there are actually some cultures where it isn't a problem at all, though I can't quite remember what the name of the group was ( ... )

YES, THIS IS PROBABLY why my symptoms have gotten worse since I came to university and adopted an unhealthy lifestyle. I've also noticed a correlation with stress, I think, which makes sense.

It's probably a combination of genetic change, or at least changes in gene expression, and physiological factors like you mentioned. But yeah. You make a good point. AND AS FOR THAT CRAZY SOCIETY at least it would keep their population down? MEN CUTTING OFF THEIR NOSE TO SPITE THEIR OWN -- MANBABBIES.

I read that as 'punishment for fucking the apple,' and I was like yes, that is rather deviant, isn't it. BUT UH yes obv menstruation is punishment and not an expression of female power over life and death or anything cool like that. And I like apples, okay?!

LOLOLOLO Y I CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION AFTER NOT EATING EVEN MORE BADLY THAN I DID IN FRESHERS YEAR and then having awful regular terrible cramps. Although I am also told that it can also be a result of simple bodily changes as your body ages and matures. But if this is how menstruation is going to be every time for the rest of my life I am going to get myself sterilised. THEN I COULD GET HEALTH INSURANCE IN THE STATES WHOO. Though I hear it's virtually impossible to get a sterilisation procedure done if you're a woman of childbearing age because everyone knows women can't actually make important difficult life decisions.Yyyyyyyyy well idk about the crazy society since I imagine the women (of cultural childbearing age) who routinely survived were probably subjected to marital rape with frequency during the rest of the month so I doubt the population control was that great ( ... )

Uhh. Eat better/use water babby? It's not that bad if you have water babby. Or at least if I get the really bad cramps, they go away after an hour or so of water babby treatment. And yeah, I imagine they would only cover it if it were 'medically necessary.' It's hard to get coverage for any procedure you choose to do to yourself for personal reasons, like sex change surgery and stuff. Except I'm willing to bet it's easier to get plastic surgery, because that's such a lucrative market.Well, I just meant that the survival rate of women of childbearing age would be less than usual. There'd be less women to get pregnant ( ... )

Wow, I actually understood most of that. I did buy ginger. And I would buy some pearl milk tea to bring you, except I think you have your own when you go home. Is there a Chinatown in Pittsburgh?

I didn't get that last part. But that's alright, it's not like you make sense with a normal keyboard anyway.

I got it for like $0.97 (CND) per pound. (Or maybe it was $1.97? Whatever, still cheaper.) So there. And that's really unfortunate. I'm sure there are Chinese groceries somewhere in the city.

Actually, that's what I thought it said. But that didn't make any sense, so I wasn't sure. Therefore, I prove my point about you being incomprehensible regardless of keyboard function.
