Summary: Kaidoh's feeling nostalgic, and Inui isn't helping. [Part 1/10 of a Nick Cave inspired drabble series]
Kaidoh sat by the window, staring silently at the world passing by beyond the glass. By his side, Inui sat there, staring at him while he numbly stroked the kitten in his lap.
"Look..." The viper said, breaking the silence. "Look at everything and everyone out there. The people, the animals... The cars and trees, even the planets and the stars... They're all there, forever falling. It's just...they fall so lovely and...amazing, even..." Kaidoh waited for Inui's reply, with empty eyes and a vague smile.
"That all may be true, but..." Inui replied. "Look at the people. Look at that one waving to his neighbour. He only does that to ask for favours later on. They're all only concerned with themselves. They won't get nowhere." Kaidoh frowned and drew the curtains, standing up as the cat in his lap jumped to the floor.
"What happens there is none of your concern. You have only one heart, you're not supposed to house the hearts of others. And what good is your benevolence? It's no better than the lack of it in others. But fine. Sit there, judging the world through a window, and let sorrows pile up around you. Ugly, useless, over-inflated sorrows."
"Kaidoh...is everything alright?" Inui stood next to him, pushing his hair out of his eyes.
"...I don't even know anymore..." And with that, the viper stood up and left.
