How strange it is to return to the daily routine of work after less than three weeks away. I can scarcely begin to understand how Frodo felt after a year spent on his Quest, which took him so far from the Shire and from himself. "How do you pick up the threads of an old life", indeed. Waaaah ( Read more... )

Welcome back to the Real World. So sorry...

I need to watch all the EE's again. It's been way too long for me, also. And I've only watched the ROTK one all the way through twice. Ah, the beauty. Ah, the angst. I'm a gonner from the moment the first arrow hits Boromir until the credits roll... I hope that part will *always* make me cry...

I need to find the links for the panda cams. I lost them somewhere. If you have them handy... :-D

Looking forward to the travelog!!! Whoohoo. Hopefully the shade of green I turn due to envy will be an attractive one! ;-)

http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/GiantPandas/ <-- This is the zoo one, where the post panda news too
http://animal.discovery.com/cams/pandavidr.html <-- this one is generally clearer

Su Lin (San Diego):
They have a lousy pandacam, but this link:
http://www.sandiegozoo.org/videos/index.html has all her weekly exams. You get a real good look at her.

She's just all over this PandaCam thing, isn't she? Lucky for us.

It's actually not that hard to be back. It's the angst over FOTR and knowing Frodo's fate and all the LOTR nostalgia that hit me unexpectedly hard!

"The threads of an old life" indeed. But at least that life will always include LOTR! I think I must give myself the Christmas present of watching the FOTR EE again at some point this month. It is the Beauty of All Beauties. :)

Isn't it? Watching it again after some time away adds layers of meaning and associations with our experiences since the previous viewing, so it always stays fresh, yet deepens with age. Corny? Maybe, but I love that first film in particular with a passion that only increases, and the angst becomes richer and more complex each time.

I'm with you. For *so* many reasons, the first movie is the one I love the most. Not that I don't adore ROTK, and am very fond of TTT... but between the way I feel about the movie FOTR itself, and the associations with the film -- being what got me into LOTR and the LOTR fandom in the first place, and introducing me to the Harem & my lovely Haremites... it will always occupy a special place in my heart.

It had been a long time since I had seen it. It broke my heart all over again, and I cried and cried. For Frodo, for Pippin, for Boromir, for the beauty of it all, for the memories, the nostalgia, for knowing that this will always exist for us, for knowing there will be never be any more of it than we already have. Oh, the beautiful and terrible sweetness and angst of it all!

Incredibly well put. :)

It's been a long time since I've seen the films--the heart is willing, but "real life" simply won't allow it. I still haven't seen all of the EE of ROTK, so there's a part of me that is very looking forward to that, though there's a small part of me that enjoys the fact that in some small way it's not "completely" over yet for me. I guess it's just the natural extension of the kid in me who always stretched her Halloween and Easter candy out as long as possible, the kid who always wanted to start making Christmas decorations in August ( ... )

(((Niere/Lily))) I miss you! Your life is very busy and complicated, but also, I trust, rich and full of love.

My first NZ trip came a few months after the Vermont Hoot. NZ is inextricably linked to the ladies of the Harem and LOTR fandom in my mind. On both visits, my pictures were taken with an eye toward recording the place for people who couldn't be there and might never go there, so they could have a part of the experience if they wanted. Now I have to get off my butt and post some of them!

I love your "Harem Frenzy Frodo" icon. :>D

(((Pearl))) The scene from which your glorious icon came is one that always makes me teary-eyed. Always.
