Well, everything about my day was going smoothly until I got back from my afternoon classes. I came home to find water dripping from the ceiling into my room. The floor was saturated with water. The gas stove had water enough to submerge two of the gas burners. Almost everything on the floor got a good soaking, including several of my storage boxes, my crate of school books from last semester (which included my TI-82 graphing calculator, which isn't exactly a cheap item). Water was dripping onto my printer box, which is now completely soaked. Fortunately, I haven't used the printer yet this semester, but who's to say if it'll work now? My computer also received more than a few drops, but fortunately, I think it's okay.
I'm in the labs right now, BTW. My room is completely unuseable at the moment, though the maintanence people came through with a machine and sucked up as much of the water from the carpet as they could. Everything that I could possible get off the floor is off the floor, but that leaves me no space to do anything, including sit or sleep on my bed. Water went all through some of the cabinets in the kitchen, which means I'll have to wash all of those dishes. I just hope that nothing else got damaged that I may have overlooked.
Fortunately, no water fell on my other computer equipment, or on anything else that's really damageable. My bed was okay, as was my loveseat. The sofa took a hit at places, though... with my new blue Dragon tapestry on it that I got for Christmas. :( And Pyra, too... and all the stacks of pictures I brought home. I'm afraid to even look.
Right now, I have a fan going in my room, trying to get some blowage going on to help dry stuff. It'd probably be more effective if I had the door open, but it's super-depressing sitting around in my room right now. I had to get out of there. :( Thank goodness for my new car. It's bleeping cold out right now, though. :( Yahoo is reporting 17 degrees, and 15-25 MPH winds....
I'm so upset right now, as if I even need to say that... I don't know what to do. I can't stay here for too long because I need to go to sleep sometime, but going back to that room will just make me miserable. My room is my sanctuary. :( It's the one place where I previously thought I could get away from the stupidity of the world, but even that's taken from me. I guess I should be thankful that I have a room, and stuff that can be destroyed by flood water... Did I mention that the water came from an overflowing toilet?
I guess since I'm not going anywhere (at least for a while), I'll talk about my day, pre-flood. I decided to get up at 7:30 AM since I wasn't sure how long it would take me to get over to campus factoring my new car into the equation. I used to get up at 8:00 AM. Hopefully I can cut back the time so having a car will save me time instead of making me get up earlier. :/ I suppose I can always go back to walking... Anyway, I got to my class probably around 8:40 (20 minutes early). No problems driving the car or finding a parking space... at least, as early as I went. There were still quite a few cars already in the lot, though.
Both of my morning classes went as smoothly as can be expected. After my second class, I went to the campus police office to get a parking permit for my car. That was no problem. After that, I came back to my apartment and checked
Yerf, my e-mail, and my webcomics. Then, back to campus for lunch and afternoon classes. Auditions were held today for chorus, so I got that done, too. I think I did okay, but I can tell how out of shape my voice is. I just hope I can help strengthen up the male section of the choir, since the male/female ratio is quite unbalanced.
After the auditions, I came back to my room and found out about the flood... and now I'm here, half asleep, and pretty unhappy. I should get to sleep, though, because they said they might be trying to wash the carpet tomorrow. I might be asleep, but I guess that's too bad. How am I supposed to do pushups if my floor is all nasty, to boot... and just when I had finished working my way back up to my old 100, too. *sighs*
