Dear everyone who guessed on my
combat_jack fic, thanks for trying but you were all wrong. WHAT WOULD BRAD COLBERT SAY?? ;)
I'm reposting my actual story here. I had the prompt "out of bounds" and of course out of bounds + day +
me = whales in the Arctic. Now you know! :D
This story was betaed by the lovely
oxoniensis and
hypertwink, without whom I would still be a horrible

(Also, I've been terrible about feedback lately so I don't know if I commented, but how much do I love your story? So, so much! I was so happy to type in a neat little row of 9s! I was going to put "11!", but alas I thought they might discount it for being too cheeky. :'()

Oh, wow, thank you! *beams*

Oh, Nate, you big Classics dork <3
Walt, who use to train Beluga whales at Marineland before he figured out what he really wanted to do was study them in the wild.
Aside: this is just awesome. <3 Walt.
Brad's wondered about them. Not conspicuously or purposefully but a low-grade curiosity about whether there's actually anything there. He watches Ray's determined flirtation with anyone female alongside his casual presence in Walt's personal space and wonders which one is the ruse. Or if they are both somehow a mutually enforcing picture of a Lothario-Ray that Brad's never entirely doubted.
This whole thing ... I can't even describe, except to say that it feels spot-on. Nicely done.
Wow, Nate mouths.
Oh, I love this tiny moment of intimacy.
This just begs for a sequel. Damn my need for closure! There's no chance you could ... ?
Much, much love for this story.

But also, thank you! Yay yay, this was such a fun challenge! (And also, so so much love for Ceasefire. ♥ We seriously had a rocking team!)
Damn my need for closure!
Darling, there's no closure in life. ;)
But if there were, it would probably be about how they continue to sail north and Brad and Nate would be all not talking about that night, but then they'd start giving each other cute little smiles and being all jokey in the lunch line. And Brad will start sitting with Nate even when there's nothing he needs, just their heads bent over some new reports or new data and not having to talk at all.
Of course, everyone notices, especially Ray, who's like, "Wtf Brad? Now your bffs with Nate instead of us? I mean, I know he has the prettiest cocksucking lips (*cue Walt's blush*) on the ship, but come on dude, we're the whale people!" And Brad gets all scowl-y and is all "SHUT YOUR FACE RAY!" but he make a conscious ( ... )

Uh, in no particular order, 'cause you just fried my brain,
Team Day FTW! (Not that Team Night did badly, but, you know, TEAM DAY, MOFOS!) And thanks for saying nice things about my story (which I'm almost sick of by now. God, it's nice to read other people's stuff ;)
Darling, there's no closure in life. ;)
... why d'you think I want it in my fic? ;D
Nate: "I WAS NOT PROMISCUOUS ON THE BOAT."
*dies* XD
Then they had sex even though Nate kind of mutters "Who's the slut now bitch!" in the middle.
Oh, you slay me. Thanks so much for writing this, it's just awesome <3
I'm on a boat!

I love this story so much, and the complicated character interactions even though so little is actually said. Seriously fantastic fic :D

Whale expedition!AU? Hell yeah.
Also, I'm madly in love with your Brad who just happen to be stuck at marine biology. That's life.
What I like best is the general quietness and slowness of the setting and the story.
Oh, and your comment sequel. That's just ... fantastic.

Brad would probably hate his life if he was actually stuck in Marine Bio, but what can you do. Also, he gets to go to Alaska and look at whales, so I don't feel too bad.
I think indyhat might have wanted a real sequel but she gets crack instead. I for one think I did her a favour. ;)
