Damn my need for closure!
Darling, there's no closure in life. ;)
But if there were, it would probably be about how they continue to sail north and Brad and Nate would be all not talking about that night, but then they'd start giving each other cute little smiles and being all jokey in the lunch line. And Brad will start sitting with Nate even when there's nothing he needs, just their heads bent over some new reports or new data and not having to talk at all.
Of course, everyone notices, especially Ray, who's like, "Wtf Brad? Now your bffs with Nate instead of us? I mean, I know he has the prettiest cocksucking lips (*cue Walt's blush*) on the ship, but come on dude, we're the whale people!" And Brad gets all scowl-y and is all "SHUT YOUR FACE RAY!" but he make a conscious effort to stay by the marine mammal couch even though he keeps sneaking glances at Nate from across the room. And it's all UST and TEENAGE ROMANCE *SIGHS* which seriously cramps Ray's style (and plus makes Walt all sympathetic and focuses his attention on Brad instead of Ray which is not on) so Ray throws up his hands and says, "Fine, whatever homes, who am I to stand in the way of your ~epic love~? Go be with your boyfriend already." Brad: "You seriously need to shut up before I throw you overboard!" but he'll go back to Nate's table the next day and start smiling a lot more.
After they get back, Nate kind of sneakily follows Brad back to San Diego and is like, "Oh yeah, I got an adjunct professorship here, didn't you know?" And Brad is all nonchalant and like, "Really? That's nice." But then he'll totally take Nate back to his apartment and spend about a million hours learning the taste of Nate's skin and the places that make him squirm because he's dreamed about this for what feels like forever but it's nothing like the reality of Nate, sun-drenched and satiated in his bed.
And then, something like six weeks in, Nate notices that Brad is still all hesitant sometimes like he's holding something back and will stare at him for too long and always seems surprised when they wake up together in the morning, so he's like "What's up?"
Brad: "Nothing. *shifty eyes*"
Nate: "No seriously, I used to be in Recon. I think you can imagine how much that's not going to fool me."
Brad: "Um....well...areyougoingtoleavemeforanotherguysoon?"
Nate: "What?"
Brad: "Well, you know how you were kind of promiscuous on the boat...?"
Nate: "I WAS NOT PROMISCUOUS ON THE BOAT."
Brad: "Actually, you were kind of a slut."
Nate: "Omg, you think I'm a slut?"
Brad: "Um, I kept seeing guys come out of your room at odd hours? Plus, Walt."
Nate: "Omg, Walt only happened once! That doesn't make me a slut. Also, you came to my room at odd hours and we did not have sex. And those guys were all insomniacs so it was like coming out of my room at 3 in the afternoon because they wanted to know the lunch schedule. Also also, I AM NOT SLUT."
Brad: "You're not?"
Nate: "I like cuddling and long walks on the beach and breakfast in bed and LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS LIKE THE ONE WE'RE IN YOU ASSHOLE."
Brad: "Oh. Good to know. :D" Then they had sex even though Nate kind of mutters "Who's the slut now bitch!" in the middle.
One day, before Nate's headed back to Boston, he tells Brad about being in the Corps and how is was hard and soul-crushing and the best days of his life, but he could have never have stayed. Of course, Brad understands completely even though he doesn't say it and even though he still can't really talk about the Corps himself.
And after that, they'll end up at some University together because Brad is awesome and Nate is awesome so they can circumvent the whole "why is academia so hard to break into?" thing, and they'll like solve global warming and the energy crisis and adopt two stray puppies and have lots and lots of sex (ON A BOAT MOTHERFUCKER but also off as well, naturally).

Yeah, um, my story was all tense and angsty. By the laws of physics, the epilogue was required to be cracky and ridiculous.
Also, is there any universe in which Walt is not adorable and awesome?
I'm sure that universe would have collapsed onto itself from the sheer impossibility of the situation.
