Sam has no idea how long it’s going to take to hit the bottom of the Cage, and he doesn’t know if bracing himself for the collision will help or hurt; after a while he decides to simply stay limp. Michael angel-ported himself away almost as soon as they fell past the lip of the hole, so he can’t use the other archangel to cushion the landing, ( Read more... )

Loki had spent many an hour (or however time passed or did not pass in that place) standing on the paths between worlds, staring transfixed out at the great empty chaos of the void singing its seductive song, and wondering with a kind of distant curiosity what it would be like to simply...step forward and fall. Never had, of course, because what was there but death?

No, Loki. Like a door slamming closed in his face, and like the taste of failure, and like - you don't have a choice in what you are, no matter what you do you will always, always be less, you will always be inferior, nothing you do will ever be enough-

He knows that song. Too well. So much easier, then, to just surrender, expecting death.

Not this. Not this interminable, endless fall that only lets his thoughts spin in in deadly, sharp-edged circles, what if, what if, what if, fracturing and splintering only to come around again. Caught up, tangled in his own mind, and it felt like he was unraveling into strands of himself, if he'd ever been anything at all but what ( ... )

Sam is vaguely horrified that someone else is falling, and it takes his pain-muddled brain a few moments too long to realize that he is on a high-speed collision course with the figure. He stretches his arms out at the last second and manages to catch his new companion before they crash into each other too violently. The mystery figure turns out to be a man that looks around Sam's age, with black hair and piercing green eyes. "Are you ok?" Sam asks, holding the man at arms length.

Loki is yanked out of his thoughts by the sudden collision with someone else, sudden hands on him and his instinctual reaction is to snarl and try to pull away, though it is followed by almost immediate surrender, and then puzzlement at the question. There is nothing that lives here. He knows that. Knows it. His eyes stare blankly at Sam for a few moments, almost through him, before focusing, just barely.

It is not a face he knows. No hallucination, then, even if he were to discount the likelihood of that given the solidity of the hands holding onto him (like an anchor, like the only thing solid in a world suddenly fallen to pieces). The voice, the words...Midgardian? Oh Norns, please no. That would be too cruel an irony.

But no, he is still falling.

"No," he says, finally, and somewhat blankly. "What are you-" He doesn't know how to end that sentence. Doing? Obviously. Falling. Same as he is. Why am I not dead?

Sam is prepared when the man tries to jerk away, because most people would be wary of strangers they met while falling through a bizarre dimension. The way the man seems to stare through him rather than at him for a while freaks him out a bit, but eventually the man's eyes clear and he looks at Sam with a calculating gaze.

When the man speaks he sounds just as confused as Sam feels, and Sam can't help grinning a little sarcastically. "I'm falling," he says, in a bit of a 'duh' voice, before taking pity on the guy. "I don't know how I ended up here, or where here is, sorry. I thought I was going to end up in Lucifer's Cage, not this - purple space place."

Sam takes a quick look at the surroundings, and confirms that he still doesn't recognize any stars, and the pair of them are still falling.
