I'm adding that to my list of Names to Pay Attention To. I usually start with the "formal" version of anybody's name and let THEM tell me it's ok to shorten or modify it.
Unless you're D. I shortened him from Dering to D as a term of endearment without any prelude. Oops.
ACK! Please tell me that I haven't called/written that to you. If I have, I'm really sorry. Generally if I shroten something its because I'm being too lazy to make sure that I'm spelling it correctly. So um... sorry if I've done it!
And that doll's name is no relation to me. In fact there are few names I will put up with being called other than my full name or the first four letters - Barb.
Babs will get you that stare of death (there are only two people on the planet who are allowed to call me that without getting mutilated!)
I can so totally appreciate spellage and depending on what part of the planet you are on the cultural norm isn't the same...ask.
Or as they say on Monty Python _ I agree with 'im!
For reals. If I sign my name Stephanie in an e-mail, why would you write back to Stefani? That strikes me as disrespectful. (BTW, I apologize if I have ever typoed your name, which I am sure I have at least once)
Meh. My name has been so mangled, even it's next of kin wouldn't recognize it... But having 5 Jeff / Geoffs in the same household one semester didn't help.
LOTS of people get that one wrong. :-) It flips me out because unlike me who signs her name Av, Avie, Avonelle, AGW, or just plain A, he signs EVERYTHING Vinny, which means everybody has seen how HE spells it.
So, don't feel too badly. about once every 5 years or so, I flip my spit over names getting mangled. (get me started sometime about how Avie is me, Avy looks like a leafy vine and Avi is a hebrew guy - neither condition of which I meet!)

It's been so long since I've seen you guys that I'm lucky to spell initials correctly!

I also know how important it is to get a person's name correct, since it is Theirs!

I think..i can't remember.
Which is awful cause my moms name is Kemerle, not kim or kimberly.
But if Ive offended in the past I'll work harder at double checking in the future.
