Title: Life is a Highway Pairing: none Rating: R Warnings: Mention of non-con and child prostitution. Spoilers: Set during season one. So, none, really.
GREAT use of that freak from "The old block". Good choice for a bad guy and a fantastic style. The description of the landscape and also your choice (or continuation) of Stevie's pov give this a very gloomy atmosphere. I very much like that you chose to let Dean be still messed up about it, even though (for the standard of this very creepy fandom *cough*) 'nothing much' happened. Dean is still Dean as we know him (I'm thinking s1/s2?), and yet this incident couldn't be forgotten. Even with all the shit the kids had been through at the age during "The old Block", what Stevie nearly did lend a whole new terror to Dean, not to mention the knowledge that there very probably were more kids who weren't as lucky as Sam and Dean - and Stevie took advantage of that.
Thank you! I loved the original story, and it's always fun to write from such a skewed POV.
I'm so glad Dean seemed IC (and yeah, I was thinking this happened mid-S1). So much of the abuse fic in this fandom is just totally gratuitous, and one of the things I really liked about fleshflutter's fic was the way she pulled back from that. I think it still would have messed Dean up pretty good, though, so I'm glad that came through.
I read this a long time ago, before I'd found fleshflutter's fic, and I just found hers yesterday and thought of this and had no idea how to find it again.
And then I saw your post on ffrants and decided to see what you'd written and voila! Serendipity. I love outsider POV SPN fic, and angry Dean is a particular favourite of mine.
This is one of the better case-file SPN fics I've read. Keeping Stevie's perspective really heightened the creepiness factor. Sam and Dean come off as scary, and slightly psychopathic. Stevie completely views himself as the victim. Dean's borderline control, Sam's indifference~ *_*. Its cool to see what the brothers' appear to be from an outside perspective.
Its also nice to see how they act when the person that they're helping is a bad guy, that they still manage to do the job.
I love outside POV's of the boys, because while we know they're the good guys, they definitely don't always come across that way at first glance. Stevie was a lot of fun to write, too, because of course he is the bad guy and totally doesn't think of himself that way. Glad you enjoyed!
