BANGKOK, Aug. 7 - It is the pink armband of shame for wayward police officers, as cute as can be with a Hello Kitty face and a pair of linked hearts.

-- for accepting volunteers into convention security was that everyone on duty had to wear a convention-issue pink tutu, no exceptions. If one's concern was more for looking tough than it was for keeping the con running smoothly, one couldn't volunteer. If one was such a wimp that one couldn't be taken seriously while wearing a pink tutu, then one was doomed to failure.

Apparently that particular convention had a great crop of security volunteers that year.
