Oh god, the whole "choice" vs "destiny" theme... if this ends up being S6 of Buffy, I will have to slap someone.

I didn't watch Buffy, so I have no frame of reference for that, but "choice v. destiny" has been something Supernatural has been on for a very long time. It's a natural progression, and I think it's making for some interesting character and plot twists.

Yeah, I mean, I know it's been a theme for a long time, but if it becomes THE theme... I will just wait for Sam to become addicted to using his powers and go all Dark Side and skin someone alive until he is officially Willow.

I guess I just get bored of seeing the same thing over and over. How many seasons can we really talk about Sam learning to accept his destiny, discarding his destiny, using his powers for Good, blah blah. I like the Dean/angels storyline. And knowing SPN that won't get resolved for 3 seasons, so I'll stick around :P

I think you're shortchanging your own expectations if that's the only place you can see the story line going. Themes are pretty elemental, they're bound to keep recurring (I saw Kurt Vonnegut lecture once about how there are only 7 stories in the whole world, that was fascinating). I think, for example, that unlike Sam getting addicted to his powers, they're going to go in the direction that Sam will be forced to use the powers to save Dean from something. At any rate, the impact on the brothers regarding what they believe about fate v. free will and these outside influences (Ruby v. Castiel) and each other is the far more important focus of the show. That makes it well worth staying tuned for, IMO.

Besides, the show only has less than two seasons left, if Kripke is to be believed, so they can't draw it out that long. ;)

I'm used to dodging the anvils, and will even cut Show some slack for messy use of old footage due to extreme budget cuts -- so I try to watch for the embedded gems in the midst of that (which are usually the brother moments, because those two are just so *good* together and can nuance dialogue that might not have been as multifaceted on the page). I pondered the same thing you did about Dean's including 'God' as a reason for Sam to stop doing what he's doing, which seemed so not Dean. I think at that point he was ready to use everything but the kitchen sink to convince Sam to stop doing something that Dean's terrified will get Sam killed, or worse. And yes also to Ruby -- despite how awful the actress is, Ruby's still Ruby, and I don't think we've heard an honest word out of her mouth yet this season. Which I rather like :)

Better stop writing and start working....

I don't usually have a problem with the way Show gives us info, even when others are calling it anvilicious, but this week was just way too much. I am glad I gave all the brother parts of the episode a second chance, because I think we got some really interesting stuff, and did actually get into Sam's head in a way I had missed because I was so busy dodging the anvils ( ... )

I liked this episode a lot more then the second one, and even though the raw meat eating was disgusting. I do wish that if they are going to introduce all of these hunters (and then kill them off, granted) that we would have some hint of there orginzation. Like, hey, by my count, there are at least 30 hunters, and it seems to me that given the splinter cell esque stratification. I wonder why there is no power fights or control of such and such states, if they know about each other, you know? If you add psychics and peripheral hunters, then it has to be around 50. And then if you figure in to it that we have no evidence so far that the hunters keep it secret from their families, and at SOME point the husband/wife/daughter/son/brother/&t. find out about it, then you are dealing with a potentially large number of people who could be helping. I'm just saying.

LOL, I am so amused that everyone else is obsessing about bro!angst, and you're pondering hunter politics and hierarchy. *g*

Aw, geeze, I just squeed at the spotlights and didn't even look at the plates...silly me, I just ASSUMED they couldn't slip up that bad. But I guess the budget cuts make some sense for that (put the damn spotlights back! You didn't need to be able to mount cameras there previously, you did for whatever ep that was, now PUT 'EM BACK!)

I didn't actually mind the MotW too much, other than the serious direct-parallelism (find a new way of presenting that aspect, Show, because this is at LEAST the third run through, and it's wearing thin...) but the raw meat just made me giggle. WAY too bright cherry red, looked more like he was scarfing cherry pie filling with cooked oatmeal in it, or something (which is probably what it was, but a little food coloring to make it more bloody and less Artificial Cherry Flavoring woulda been nice ( ... )

I thought the whole episode was terribly written, but now I'm content enough with what we got of Sam and Dean character-wise to just ignore everything else (except the spotlights, goddammit!).
