Spoilers for Heart. Karofsky anonymous February 17 2012, 01:39:39 UTC
When Dave Karofsky is outed before his wishes and transferred back to McKinley in an emergency due to escalating violence, most people think it's a little ironic, the Glee Club takes its position of the defense, but Kurt and Blaine decide to step back. They have history and Karofsky might not be able to deal with them well. They expect Rachel, Finn, Santana and Brittany to take the reins and help him out.

Instead Mike, Artie, Sam and Puck form the first line of defense and befriend Dave. They try not to treat Dave differently and stare down anyone who does. They don't even seem remotely fazed when Dave tells them about his problems with Kurt, taking it as 'you're not doing that anymore right? and you see where you went wrong? Then we ain't going to hassle you over it, people make mistakes'

After a while they realise that normal, male friends that didn't give a damn about whether or not he was gay was exactly what Dave needed.

Usually don't do fills, but I was thinking about this, and a few scenes came to my head, and I couldn't resist... Let's see how far I take this; I'm flying a bit seat of my pants here ( ... )

The room was silent for a moment. "Okay..." Mercedes began. "If that's the way you want to play it..."

"It is," Kurt replied firmly. "I'll be putting my trust in all of you."

"Us?" Santana asked. "What about you?"

Kurt and Blaine glanced at each other; there were still a few facts they were deliberately keeping hidden. No sense stirring the pot and making things even worse. "We... don't think we should be directly involved," Kurt finally said. "He... we represent an... uncomfortable period in his past." And he for us. It wasn't said, but it didn't need to be. "But we're trusting you to take this up for us. It'll be more meaningful coming from all of you anyway ( ... )

"Do you think they'll do it?" Kurt asked quietly. He and Blaine were having a quiet moment at the Lima Bean, their discussion of earlier in the day still weighing on them ( ... )

I love this. Most of the fic I read is Kurtofsky, so it's interesting to read a fic about Dave where Kurt is removed from the equation. This is really real and you can feel Dave's terror.

"Hiya." The lilting voice turned him around. This scrawny dark haired kid looked up at him, in some odd mix of curiosity and some weird unknown quantity that was reflected only in a gleam in his eye. "I assume you'd be Dave Karofsky, would ye?" Dave blinked, not sure what he was more thrown by: the interest of this stranger or his accent ( ... )

Oh, I love how you incorporated that little twist of Artie's and Rory's rivalry!

The emotions and reactions are so strong the way you write them and you've captured everybody's conflict so beautifully.

Lunch. It was almost hard to believe it was once one of Dave's favorite times of day. Not for the food - God knew that not a single crumb had passed his lips at any school that he would've called "good" - "edible" was as far as he'd go. But the chance to let loose some steam after a long morning of classes, catch up with friends, laugh a little. But now... as the room seemed to go still upon his entrance, just as the hall had, he wondered if he could just find some quiet corner with a sandwich next time. But no, he had to not think about this until he was just about to enter the cafeteria, so if he was gonna eat, it was going to have to be here ( ... )

"If anyone gives you any shit," Artie said, "let me or one of the others know. We'll take care of it ( ... )

"Shoulda gone with your instincts, then. All that time in the locker room... all that time you were checking out my junk... You thought I was really gonna let you get away with that?" The puckheads drew closer. One of Cooper's fists closed around the front of Karofsky's shirt. "Lookit you. Fag all alone, not even a stupid glee club or fruity boyfriend to back you up. What'cha gonna do now?"

Karofsky didn't even say anything to that, and even Puck could think of a dozen replies, ranging from the badass to the sarcastic. It was like he was just going to stand there and take it, whatever "it" was that the puckheads were planning ( ... )
