Finn Hudson had certain comforting truths in his life that kept his world turning. The sun rose and set. Xbox Live rocked. Jesse St. James was a douchebag. Facts like these kept him grounded. Facts like these kept him sane.
Right now, though, it felt as though the sun was refusing to set, Xbox Live was like PSN, and Jesse had given up Rachel and was dating Coach Beiste.
"Karofsky's gay. Wow." He shook his head. The grapevine from Karofsky's new school had stretched its vines to McKinley. It wasn't surprising that it had reached so far, especially given some of what was being described by said rumors: David Karofsky, outed by the gossip mill. Then there was its result, the kind of constant, pounding harassment that Karofsky himself used to participate in, only worse, something Finn had never thought possible.
"It's as though the entire school, from the principal on down, is either actively participating or turning a blind eye." Kurt Hummel was livid - not just for David Karofsky, but by a school that seemed rotten to the core with homophobia.
"Yeah, but why's he coming back here?" Puck asked. "He thinks it's gonna be any better?"
"He doesn't have much of a choice," Blaine Anderson said quietly, lost in thoughts of his own past. "At least here we have Kurt's dad to apply pressure and make sure it doesn't get too out of control."
"Besides, it WILL be better. Because we're going to make it better." Kurt's pronouncement sent the choir room into silence.
"I still can't believe you care," Quinn said, shaking her head.
Kurt sighed. "I'm tired of explaining this. I've forgiven him. I've moved on. Besides, do you think I'll stand for an atmosphere of hate at this school? Towards anybody?"
"He does kinda deserve it," Finn mused.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize nobody in this room ever bullied or harassed anyone." Kurt's glare fell upon Finn and Puck, who both immediately shifted uncomfortably.
"Yeah, but we never threatened to kill you," Puck protested. "Or drove you out of school."
"That's not the point," Kurt snapped. "Do you think for one moment that if David gets pushed around here, it'll be because he did anything to me? No. It'll be because he's gay. And I won't tolerate that. I can't." More than a few ears perked at this use of the first name, but the point was made.
"I agree," Blaine said, to the astonishment of practically everyone else. "Letting that happen... to anyone. It's poison. That kind of thing sticks to a place. It only gets worse." He took a deep breath. "If Karofsky comes here, he has to be safe. Not just for him, but for every gay kid that comes here after him."
