Puck/Finn gen Angst, ft. the Hudmels anonymous February 4 2012, 21:42:18 UTC

Burt doesn't like Noah Puckerman. Not his stupid hair, or his dirty mouth, not the way he's always insulting Finn when they hang out, and especially not the fact that he used to torture Kurt. So when he comes home to Puck calling Kurt a derogatory name (misunderstanding), it doesn't matter that he's Finn's best friend, or that Carole seems to excuse his behaviour, he wants him out.

But Puck and Finn have always helped each other. They may do bad things to each other, but the good things they do outweigh the bad. Like, Finn's always been there when Puck's dad hurts him, and Puck was there the time one of Carole's boyfriends did the same to Finn.

So take that as you will.

Burt does not like Noah Puckerman. He hates that the kid will only answer to ‘Puck’, unless it’s Carole trying to get his attention. He hates the stupid throwback hair style. He hates Puck’s dirty mouth, and the fact that the punk swears around Carole and she seems to let it go. Most of all, Burt hates that the jerk was responsible for so many of the ruined shirts Burt had caught his own son try to sneak into the laundry without him noticing in previous years ( ... )

“Kurt and Puck never hang out and he’s always here so I said ‘Hey Puck, I’m gonna go see if Kurt wants to play with us’ and Puck was like ‘Hummel won’t want to, dude. Does he even game? Like at all?’ so I told him how epic Kurt was at Mario, and he didn’t believe me so I told Kurt that Puck was questioning his honour or something, and Kurt was all ‘well, we can’t have that can we?’ so he came upstairs to kick our asses, but Puck totally won anyway, well the third game, because Puck’s crazy at the star worlds, so Kurt owed him, and ( ... )

“So I know his shit. And his biggest thing is his loser dad. Mr. Puckerman ran out when Puck was nine, but he’s come back a few times. When Puck was 11 he was there for like, almost a year before he ran again, and that’s when… anyway, and then again when he was 14 for a couple months and I guess he’s there now because he answered the phone when I called ( ... )

Kurt pulls over to the curb when they near the old Hudson home, and Finn jumps out. Kurt follows with a grimace when they start across an untamed field, and groans out loud when Finn starts shuffling down the embankment and starts jumping rocks across the small brook that runs parallel to the tree line ( ... )

And I thought that Finn liked him. Because Dennis played football with the boys out back sometimes, and called Finn and Noah his ‘little buds’ which they both seemed to enjoy, but then Finn started getting quiet whenever he was around, and Noah started pulling him out of the room anytime Dennis would come in. But I still wasn’t suspicious, because I thought I’d loved him, and that he loved me and my family. And then one day I came home and I could hear Finn crying and Noah yelling and Dennis shouting right back ( ... )

Burt thinks it’s weird just how easy it is fitting Puck into their lives. It’s kind of like having another Finn around. It’s just one more teenager he has to threaten out of bed each morning. One more teenager whose clothes seem to end up everywhere except the hamper. But Puck’s different from Finn too, he likes to help Burt in the shop way more than either of his own kids do, and Burt’s even been helping him fix up one of the old clunkers that’s been sitting out back forever, so Puck won’t get stuck in a situation where his father takes his truck and he’s stranded, again ( ... )

It’s been seven weeks since Puck moved in. The three boys are in the same position they had been in that first day Burt had come home. The only change is that, on this day, there’s a small 10 year old girl, Sarah Puckerman, curled into Puck’s side, watching them play and occasionally messing with his controller, laughing when it caused his character to die. She’d been visiting her brother at least twice a week since he’d moved it. Her nana, it turns out, is boring, and Noah’s friends are way more fun ( ... )

Puck's not my favorite character, but he's been wasted this past season (and longer). I wish we could see some sort of dynamic like this for him on the show, because they've certainly hinted at it enough, and there's a reason why he always acts like Mr. Tough Guy, and I just... I think this would be a really nice way to see more of Puck's story. Plus, I love Burt, so this is believable (from the way he lost his temper and defended his son first, above all else, to the way he realized where he was wrong and eventually developed this gruff yet really good relationship with Puck). It works.

Thanks for the story. :)

Puck's my favorite and this is absolutely wonderful. I was definitely crying at the end. Burt Hummel is a god among men and any kid would be lucky to have him as a dad.
