It's just so fabulous, isn't it? One of these days we really DO have to start writing children's books featuring all our animals (live and cloth).

Hooray for the Zoe & Mattie show! No wonder Zoe isn't as interested in Butter -- how can she compete with that?
Wonderfulness.

Maybe someday you can catch the Zoe & Mattie peformance with video... the stills hardly do it justice!

She is definitely keeping Zoe entertained...and sometimes exhausted.

Wonderfulness...or total zoo. You be the judge. In my opinion it depends on if you're trying to concentrate on something highly detailed, or not. How's the Butter Bean today?

That is so adorable! I've never had a pet with interspecies social skills (other than with humans), so I always marvel to see stuff like that.

Somehow we always manage to have pets with multiple interspecies social skills. Mattie takes the cake though; she makes the rounds every morning, taking passes at Ben the big cat, then having a huge romp with Zoe, and then spending time patting Teddy the guinea pig on the nose through his cage bars. They visit for a little while, and then Mattie is off again, trying to get Ben to play, then Zoe.

Ben loves Teddy, too, actually, and can sometimes be seen petting him with his paw up to the armpit in the cage. And Ben loves Zoe, and will turn a summersault into her neck, or ear, for a snuggle. Then they end up lying together, sometimes licking ears. But I think Ben does it all because Ben wants to; Mattie seems to regard it like a job; rounds she has to make several times a day no matter what.

I like the idea of Mattie making rounds. Like a nurse. Or a sergeant inspecting her troops. She's a cutie.

How adorable! It's good Zoe is well protected by her thick curly coat - they are clearly having lots of fun.

Well, the front end of the kitten is disarmed. You know, I am heartily opposed to declawing, but Ben and this kitten both came that way, and I have to say, it has a certain beauty to it. No climbing the curtains, no ripping of shades, no clawing of ankles, no furniture turned into installation art...

Its actually Mattie I'm worried about here; I put Zoe in her den when they're in crazy play mode and I need to leave the house. I'm worried she'll come down hard and miscalculate by a quarter inch, and land right on Mattie and...well, break her. She's so tiny. And Zoe does land RIGHT next to her, so close that I can't see the gap.

I've also seen Mattie's head in Zoe's mouth, which worries me less. Zoe is in control there, and would not make a mistake. But when they're both moving fast and acting impulsively...yikes. We just watch, and try to have faith.

I hope they don't play too rough--but how could you thwart such fun and games, they are so cute together!
