I like it! Something about Scarlett's pov bit makes me think that about then is when Duke himself started putting the pieces together. Not like he figured it out right then and there, but like he started to notice things he either didn't before or explained away to himself.
Thanks! I had a bad back for a couple days which made it hard to get writing time in... I'd get online for a short amount of time but didn't get a lot of time with the computer to myself to just write... but anyway, now I'm back with the second part!
I kind of see Duke as the kind of guy who might not put everything together right away-- at least, not with this kind of thing, obviously he puts things together fast in combat situations-- but who does notice a lot, so at least in hindsight he can put all of the pieces into place... he just seems like he'd be observant, even if he doesn't or can't use the information he gets right away-- like, he'll just file it away if it's not a life-or-death situation and he doesn't need to act on it. Maybe because he knows the consequences to not being observant can be huge...

That makes sense and it fits his character well. Also, that makes him sound like he'd be an excellent blackmailer.

Hm... hopefully Duke is too nice a guy to get into blackmail, because yeah, come to think of it, he'd probably do well at it...
