Arms Hotel, Room 715, Sunday Afternoon

Mar 13, 2011 12:22

Spending all of yesterday facing the fussing/interrogation had been...a day. Yes. Which meant that Karla was in no hurry to do that again. However, she knew better than to think she could avoid the boyos for however long until their portal arrived (more's the pity), so instead of trying for that, she'd simply sent out as many handwavy calls as ( Read more... )

The last time Raven had seen any of Karla's visitors, she'd been close to demoning out as she threatened them with taking Karla away against their will if they tried to keep her there, so she was a little nervous about accepting Karla's invitation. On the other hand, she wanted to talk to Karla because she'd heard on the radio that her brothers had approached her. Friendship and concern won out over nervousness, and there she was, tapping on the door of room 715.

The door jerked open from under her hand and Julian's face scowled down at her. "For the last time, we do not wish more tow--oh. Lady, errr, Raven, right?"

Of all of Karla's friends, she confused him the most. She wore what seemed to be a Red Jewel on her forehead, but she wasn't a witch. But he couldn't treat her like a landen, either.

Why did Karla's friends all refuse to fit in the carefully constructed boxes he'd created for the world?!

Raven was a pain in the ass that way. She refused easy definition. Wore a jewel but not a witch, demon who was a pacifist, oh, and now she was one of the seven deadly sins.

At least it was Julian who answered the door, and not Morton or, Azar forbid, Lucivar, since they'd both been there for her anger. "I am Raven, yes," she said, inclining her head. "It is nice to see you again, Prince Julian."

They were in the room, Raven. Waiting.

Though, the whole demon-thing was a year in the past for them and it wasn't like the idea of someone going berserk in defense of their Queen was unheard of by their people.

"I am pleased that we're meeting under better circumstances," Julian said diplomatically. He wasn't sure he could say he was happy to see any of Karla's strange friends again--or Karla herself, really.

He was struggling to remember why he had bullied his way here in the first place.

Karla's wail of woe had reached Dinah in New Gotham. Please, like she was going to miss this?

"Hi guys!" She'd brought Alfred cookies. They were mostly for Karla, but hey, maybe they'd distract Lucivar and Morton and Purple Guy too. "Hope you don't mind me crashing the visit."

"Let me guess," Lucivar drawled, looking at the cookies Dinah had brought with her. "I have to say 'please' to get one of those, too, don't I?"

Dinah sparkled a grin at him. "Alfred would tell me I should offer before you have to ask, but he's not here to look stern at me. So nyaaah, say please, big guy." There might be a cookie floating to a napkin already, dancing in front of his face.

"Harrumph," Lucivar grunted, rolling his eyes. "Please. Though I think I should get two cookies, since you're supposed to be giving me one anyway."

From the side of the room, Lucivar saw Julian's incredulous stare and snickered. "So confused by manners, Warlord?"

It just so happened that in here? Was someplace where Warren's father wouldn't be. And so, even if Lucivar kind of intimidated the hell out of Warren, Karla's invitation couldn't possibly have come at a better time, right?

And besides, Warren figured that he probably ought to face Karla's family-et-cetera like a man, rather than waiting for them to hunt him down for the inevitable interrogation. There was something admirable about making a sitting duck of himself, wasn't there?

Okay, he wasn't even going to pretend he was anything but nervous as he knocked on the door.

And of course, it was Lucivar who opened the door, clad only in a pair of tan leather breeches and his Ebon-gray pendant and ring. At least it meant his warblade was elsewhere, right?

Okay, poor comfort when he could just call the weapon to his side.

"Ahh, Warren," he said, a smile blooming as he looked down at the male in the doorway. "I was hoping to see you this weekend."

Why was that smile always so terrifying? Why?

"Hey," Warren replied, turning his twitchy little smile up at Lucivar and managing, at least, to stifle a sudden need to fidget. "I can't imagine why."

He could. He could imagine quite vividly why. And Lucivar was between him and the window, which meant that there was no convenient escape route. Why had he done this to himself?

"Enjoying your stay on the island this weekend, Lucivar?"

Lucivar probably startled him by reaching out, intending to clasp Warren's forearm. "Well, I got the majority of my accumulated fussing out of the way yesterday and the witchling hasn't thrown anything at my head yet, so I'm calling it good so far. You?"

Respecting Warren's privacy--and not wanting an angry Lucivar stomping around--Karla hadn't mentioned anything about Warren, Jr's presence on the island.

Tara was all but clinging to her mother's arm as they made their way to the hotel room. She'd hoped to get a chance to introduce Marie to Karla, but the day before had been eaten up with the pure simple pleasure of catching up.

She tapped on the door.

It was a long-suffering Julian who answered the door however, and his face went through an interesting set of contortions as he realized exactly who was knocking this time. "Lady Tara," he said, offering her a shallow bow. "It's, err, good to see you again."

Khary and Aaron had taken glee in mentioning how Tara had cast the spell to locate Karla and Lucivar--a spell that didn't even exist in Kaeleer. Then, of course, Lucivar had to mention she'd volunteered to shield part of the building they'd been in if his failed.

So...yeah. Conflicted.

"Lady Tara?" Marie asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow at her daughter. "You've been busy."

Tara shook her head lightly. "It's, um, a ... cultural thing," she said, a little too fast. "Mom, this is Karla's friend Julian. Julian, this is my mother, Marie Maclay."

Julian turned and gave Marie a slightly deeper bow, Lucivar's warnings of manners still ringing in his ears. "Lady Maclay," he greeted and then offered her his arm. "If I may escort you into the sitting room?"

Because it was oh so far, right through the door and all. But Protocol was Protocol.

"I am sure my Queen will be pleased to see you both."

If that stick got wedged any higher, Julian wouldn't be able to bed his neck.

Leda arrived with a retinue of her own, consisting of a two half elf ladies, and one Elven man, who was hoping fervently he wouldn't be the only adult present.

He didn't come to this island to be a chaperon. He and Wiseguy still needed to get down to that beach for some heavy duty relaxing too.

"Room for 4 more?" Leda asked.

It was Leander that caused the most confusion, of course. "Prince SaDiablo?" Julian gasped as he opened the door, like some kind of common footman (and willfully ignoring that he was outranked by the Hall's butler, oh yes). Then his eyes narrowed and he peered more closely at the male. "No--but--how can this be?" he sputtered.

"Did you say my father is here?" Lucivar demanded, opening the door a little further. His eyes widened in shock to see Leander, before shaking his head a bit. "Hell's fire and Mother Night. That's just uncanny."

Neither male had moved enough to allow them entry into the room.

Leander's first thought was that it had been some kind of shocked reaction to seeing Elves. Best he knew of Human culture Diablo meant Devil, who was the Prince of Darkness, who was the chief antagonist in much mythology.

And he knew for a fact that many humans considered Elves to be allied with Hell, if not outright Demons.

All that was immediately rejected however, due to all Leda had told him of Fandom, and of Lady Karla. Besides it was only him that the boy was reacting this way to.

"I'm, not sure what you mean." he said diplomatically. "I am Leander, Leda's-"
