Room 218, Thursday Afternoon

Jan 06, 2011 14:00

In a shocking turn of events that probably surprised absolutely no one, Karla was still in a fantastic mood. Honestly--and no disrespect meant to her boyfriend--most of her good mood stemmed from feeling free for the first time in a years. It was like a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders; the danger that had doggedly haunted her since ( Read more... )

Even if Sookie hadn't felt Karla's telepathic presence back on the island, she probably would have caught the sheer amount of glee coming from 218. So of course she bounded down the stairs, tapping at the doorframe. "Cleaning? Without Craft? Who are you and where's Karla?"

[omg your slowness is awesome as I am about to take a nap. :D]

"It's homework!" Karla protested, waving Sookie inside with a cheerful smile. "Mr. Rogers said it wouldn't be fair to the other students if I use Craft for his class. So nyah," she added. "Bobby's in class with me. So's Emma. I think we might group up for the cooking section."

Unless someone was kind and sent Steve a note detailing why that would be a horrible idea.

Which, considering the alarm Sookie demonstrated at that, might happen. "Bobby did mention that he got to sweep during class yesterday. Maybe you'll get random partners for cooking, though!"

She would pray.

"Maybe," Karla said. "But I think I'd prefer if I was working with friends. And maybe I can teach Bobby a trick or two."

About blowing up a kitchen or something.

She leaned in to whisper to Sookie. "Gueeeeeeeeeeess whaaaaaaaat," she said, grinning widely.

Hayley was bored. She'd worked the early shift at the diner and her apartment was boring and there wasn't any movies she wanted to go see.

So she took to dialing random friends. The first number she dialed was Karla's.

Karla glanced at her phone and then pounced on it when she realized the display said 'Hayley.'

"Kiss kiss!" she said into the phone. "Hayley! Hi! How've you been?"

"I'm thinking of joining the circus," she said, completely honestly. "But you can't just do that any more. They expect you to know things. I looked it up on the internet. I mean, not that the last circus I ever heard of ended well, or I'm thinking about anything clown related, I just..."

She sighed dramatically.

"Life is so boring."

"Circus?" Karla asked, deciding not to mention to Hayley that she'd punched a clown yesterday. "I'm not entirely sure I know what those are."

"You-" Emma said, sticking her head around the door, "-were faaaar too chipper in our classes yesterday."

"Talk, before I go peeking on my own."

Did you think she wasn't going to notice, Karla? Really? Telepath.

Karla just gave Emma an innocent look. "Perhaps I was just happy to see that I shared yet another class with you, Emma darling? Who says there needs to be a better reason than that?"

Besides the psychic thread of *Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!* being sent Emma's way.

"Liar liar pants on fire." Emma sang, inviting herself in and waltzing over to sit on Karla's bed. "Of course, having two classes with me in a day is fantastic, but your halo is slipping with that fib."

"I'll have you know my halo is staying right where it is," Karla said cheerfully. "I stuck it on quite firmly when I stole it from someone else."

She sat down next to Emma and just gave her a beatific smile. "So, about that pants rule..."

After a brief and handwavey phone conversation with Karla while 'Dite had been off the island for New Year's, there had been nothing more. Since there were no panicked calls from Karla or Raven, she expected that things had gone according to plan, but she wanted to know for sure. Arriving back on the island this evening, the first thing 'Dite did was phone her friend.

"Karlaaaaaaaa. It's 'Dite. Talk to me, Sweet Pea."

"Hiiiiii 'Dite," Karla said, curling up on her bed. It's possible 'Dite could hear the smile in her voice. "I'm sorry--I should have called. I spent Tuesday in Kaeleer with the family. It had been a week for them and they needed to know."

'Dite could hear the smile and it made hers grow larger.

"It's okay, family comes first. Just tell me -- everything went well? You -- all of you -- are safe and sound?"

It wasn't the only question she had, but it was the most important one. She could grill Karla for details after she got the answer she expected.

"We're good," Karla assured 'Dite. "It's almost like my Craft is even more responsive now. And Warren's been preening every time I see him in class, and Raven left us almost immediately afterwards to pounce on Jono. Huh. I still have to return her nightgown."
