The Nursery, Sidra, Glacia, Tuesday (Fandom Time)

"One more time," Karla said, massaging her temples and counting backwards from ten. "The rule is...?"

Morton and Julian glared at one another before sullenly reciting, "We don't get to fight over the baby."

"Especially...?" Karla couldn't believe that she had to go over this with them. Again."When we're holding the baby ( Read more... )

Help yourself to food, drink, and conversation with other folks from the island and beyond while you wait for a chance to visit with Karla, Warren, and Kayla in the nursery!

Leda had called ahead to make certain it was a good time. She had somewhat eclectic experience at the whole parenting thing, but she did know that people dropping by unexpectedly could be a mixed blessing.

Then she showed up with a few lullabies in her head and the smallest stuffed Jackalope she could find (the antlers made for great hand-holds for tiny hands).

Raven didn't need to wait to visit Kayla and the new parents, since she lived there and all, but she was outside the nursery to visit with friends. And keep an eye on Morton and Julian. Troublemakers.

She wasn't wearing a shirt with "The Kindness" on it, but she was thinking of getting one.

Hush.

"Soooo..." Dinah had specifically tracked down Raven to say hi and give her news a few hours later, and now she was waffling. "Hi. I have some news. Don't freak out?"

Kayla is wearing her I Have The Best Auntie onesie. Because Karla knew her audience. Because Kayla is so tiny, Warren and Karla are keeping the number of people in the nursery at one time to a minimum. But hey! That means no fighting over who gets to hold the baby!

"Well look at you." Leda smiled at the infant. Her voice did not have the cutsey tone many people adopted when speaking to babies, but it was definitely softer and maybe just s touch higher. In Elvish she added; "I pray you use your power of cute only for good."

"You'd better not already be carrying tales about what her Mommy got up to in high school," Karla teased, looking up to give Leda a soft smile of hello. "No tattling on me before I have a chance to get my excuses straight."

"Oh goodness no." Leda protested innocently. "I'm saving those for when she's a teenager."

Sila had been told many stories about Leda's adventures around that time.

When visiting my best friend soon after his second child was born, I'd be holding the baby and he'd offer to take him.

Me: That's okay, you get to do this all the time, I don't.

I love how parents are always like, "Here, let me take him back. You're probably tired of him."

I'm always like, "NOOOOOOoooooOOooooOOO!! I Just got him!" *snarl*

I know! :D Though a problem occasionally arose, in that, he'd often fall asleep when I was holding him, and they were trying to keep him on a schedule. I was like "Sorry, apparently I'm the wrong person to hold him if you want him awake."
