Gimmie that synth!

Dec 18, 2003 18:23

Ever since I started listening to electronic music, there were always stories of some techno-junky finding a choice piece of gear in the oddest location for an unbelievable price. There was Billy finding a Juno 106 for 40 dollars at the flea market, Tim finding a 606 for 30 dollars from a pawn shop, or Jo finding a 303 at a garage sale. I always ( Read more... )

nice score! :)

I actually got my 606 for five bucks cheaper than Tim did. I was in a band with this guy when I was 16. his dad had one and had no use for it cos it didn't sound realistic. I offered him 50 and he thought he would be a nice guy and not take 50 for it and instead give the poor a better deal for $25. he was a very cool guy but he obviously had no idea what the market for analog equipment was...

at my grandparents' house. unfortunately it seems broken; the start/stop button won't work, though the lights come on [but nobody's home]. I think the clock might be broken.
it's also missing all of its screws because I was going to circuit bend it a long time ago. big no no, the thing is fine on its own (besides the cardboard kick.)

No way I would stop you!

Release that cover album, I believe you do have an idea for an album title I gave you that you've been waiting to use... 5 points if you remember.

I may have to lose points on this one. In my old age, my memory isn't what it used to be. :P

i found that 303 in 1996. I wish i had kept it instead of giving it as a gift but oh well. It was worth it in the end to give it to someone who would put it to so much use.

Yeah completely. I had a similar discussion with the guy that I bought the keyboard from. There is something comforting about knowing that it will go into a good home instead of on ebay. I know that I could toss it on there and get at least 500 for it but I'd rather have a unique synth to play with instead of the money.

. . .but if you ever find another 303, I have a loving home.
