Helen had begun working on dinner for the people in her Sanctuary. While the patients were already fed, the small group that still remained her family had to eat.
Her head tilted slightly. "I had wanted to be a mother, yes. I wasn't expecting to become a mother so soon after knowing your father. But it was hardly a negative thing."
What was the negative thing was John's madness. But that was hardly due to Ashley.
"You're entering a new part of your life. One you haven't experienced. It's a serious relationship that has the potential to go many ways, Ashley. It's part of growing up."
It's serious. Very serious. She slides the cut potatoes into a pan and leans against the counter. "Since when did all our conversations get serious," she jokes.
Helen smiled gently. "Ashley. It's part of being human, to be angry at each other. I don't think there is anything you could do to make me hate you, however."
"I didn't know. I should have done research or something but I didn't know, Okay? and I think it might be okay but it's," she trails off, looking a little miserable.
"Hey."
