Helen had begun working on dinner for the people in her Sanctuary. While the patients were already fed, the small group that still remained her family had to eat.
Ashley smiles. "I'll start scrubbing." She pulls some potatoes out of the pantry and dumps them into the sink to wash. "I saw Agent Scully a couple days ago," she mentions. "I know you can't give details, but how's she doing generally? is it normal to look that shade of green?"
"She's perfectly healthy." She confirmed. "A little worried, of course, given the circumstances. And it is called morning sickness. You certainly gave me my fair share."
"You were sick the whole time?" she asks, eyes wide, a little afraid. She hopes she's misunderstanding. What if it's genetic? It's temporary but, still. "It doesn't sound fun, more like barely tolerable. No wonder I'm an only child."
"Not all of the time, Ashley." Helen walked over to her, leaning against the counter. "It's highly common for the mother to be sick in the mornings in the first trimester of pregnancy. The body has to readjust it's hormones and metabolism in order to make room for the baby." She poked her daughter in the side lightly.
"Oh," she says, relaxing. She squirms away as her mother pokes her. "So it's not all vertigo plus nausea?" She blushes, "that's what Scully said it was like." She's curious. She's never been particularly curious about it before and wonders if it's because she's actually in a relationship now. Sex ed covered the basics but that's mechanical, different than her mother telling her what it's like.
"It affects every woman differently." She tilted her head. "And least to say if you do happen to have puppies, I'm note quite sure how that will turn out. Certainly an adventure for all of us."
Helen rolled her eyes. How did she know it was going to go to that?
"Ashley. Having a child is something completely different from a creature ripping itself through your stomach. Otherwise women would have stopped it centuries ago."
"Hey."
