i think for most little kids nowadays its just an excuse on the parents part. they had kids too early, fucked up taking care of them and teaching them to respect people or be polite, and now their children are little brats and cant control themselves.. so in order for those bratty uncontrollable kids' parents to get pills to calm their children down, doctors had to label this as a "disease".

on the other hand, i know some people that really do have ADD or ADHD though, so i dont think its only an excuse for bad behavior, it just is that way most of the time.

I agree with Jamie, and just have a couple points of my own to add. First of all, if it's just an excuse, then it's not really the disease, which itself shouldn't be taken lightly. I think that people are too quick to label people who have ADD or ADHD as trouble makers or wise asses. Read Andy's journal for more about this (ydna2489). One last thing about the post by certain_vertigo. I think there's a difference between being bored and restless and having ADD/ADHD...and everyone gets bored and restless.

absolutely. i think a lot of people are quick to judge. which is what i was saying...by some peoples' standards, everyone has add.

my sister has it.

i think it's slightly legit. the media these days moves at a really fast pace... and kid's activities and sports are always "go, go, go." i think some kids develop it because they're bored in school and when tasks arent as stimulating as tv and their sports and stuff. everyone's so busy that instead of taking something that moves at a slow pace, (like school) as a break, they just get bored and drift off.

honestly, i think everyone has add. it's just a matter of those who can and can't control it.

That is very true, and along with that, there could be more serious cases of it then others. I think for some people ADD is curable too but only for a few is it not.

I definitely agree with everyone here. I liked how Jamie pointed out how it's just an excuse for parents. Certainly not all cases are just an excuse, but I think the use of drugs such as Ritalin and Stratera are over-used and I think Katie is right about how everyone has a little ADD/ADHD in them. I am not trying to make ADD/ADHD seem like something you can take lightly, because it definitely isn't a disease that you can blow off, and there are definitely cases out there that are in need of medication, but as Will said I think we shouldn't be so quick to judge and diagnose. Kids these days aren't "made the same." lol so to say. Twenty years ago you would never see a kid yell at his parents and if you did, you might witness a beating afterward. (or so I am guessing...) I think it's an issue of discipline. These days, a lot of parents don't have the time or effort just to help their kids, and so they immediately go to the doctors hoping for a miracle drug. So to sum it all up--ADD/ADHD is serious disease, however, I think that we ( ... )
