My search results turned up a lot of costuming sites for re-enactment groups, which was handy, although probably not the best thing ever. And like I said earlier the general consensus is that Simplicity patterns are pretty good, and definitely acceptable for the beginner, so if you don't want to draft your own those are a decent alternative. There was another pattern company that kept coming up (Past Patterns, I think) that everyone seemed to love.
