Tony Abbott is an Idiot

Jan 27, 2010 14:48

So I wasn't going to comment on this the other day - I will never ever vote for a party with Tony Abbott at the helm. I will never forgive him for his position and words over RU486. I felt his words were very clear about what he considered my personal rights and freedoms (or lack thereof) are over my own body ( Read more... )

I have the feeling that only 1/3 of the new platform was explained. Men and households pets are also expect to be virgins until married. he thinks this will elad to a population decrease. This is the Liberal's new environmental policy. Potato virginity was also discussed, but didn't make it into the final platform.

If this policy ever gets enforced, I'm going to argue it only apply to religions that have legal traditions relating to virginity before marriage. Judaism is not one of those religons - those atitudes towards virginity came to Australian Jews from cultural cross-contamination.

We can argue also, until Abbott eats kosher, we're not willing to worry about virginity, since he is imposing his religous values on us and we haven't had a chance to impose ours on him. Is kashruth the ideal choices, though? What value do you think we should impose?

Now I'm thinking of a raft of values that Tony Abbott must observe (from different groups in Australia) before we take his thoughts on virginity seriously.

I think Tony Abbott should just have to keep his own religious beliefs to himself. We keep getting told this is not a Christian country, let him show that's the case (though he does think this is an Christian country). Judaism is not a religion built around conversion and missionaryism or proselytisation so I don't have any need to impose any of my own personal religious practices on him and I would appreciate he extend me the same courtesy.

I've extended him that privilege for many years. He doesn't realise it's something special, to not have to live other peoples' lives.

I'm surprised that we childless people are even allowed to vote, because obviously we just can't understand children, or parents, or morals or...

It's very hard - I can only imagine the wisdom and understanding that I would gain if only I conceived and birthed my own children.

Obviously, we are incomplete.

Which is not to say that having a child may not fulfil me in a way I do not yet comprehend but that I am pretty sure I will feel the same way about my own virginity then.

Also I love Catherine Deveny for her comment to him, face to face on Q&A where she said "keep your rosaries off my ovaries".

The fact that anyone takes this man seriously as leader of the opposition really befuddles me.

I agree completely on the general looniness of Abbott. The thing was, when I read his comments, in isolation, I actually thought they were remarkably mild and even sensible - for him - for the topic. Coz he didn't actually say do or don't do anything in particular, he effectively just said, think long and hard about it first. Which is fairly reasonable. But your post has just about got me convinced back the other way.... after all, I don't want Abbott leering in my bedroom either... erk...

I just don't think he should be offering me advice on it. I don't really care how he advises his kids, that *is* actually his business. Probably the question in the first place was a loaded gun ..
