Tony Abbott is an Idiot

Jan 27, 2010 14:48

So I wasn't going to comment on this the other day - I will never ever vote for a party with Tony Abbott at the helm. I will never forgive him for his position and words over RU486. I felt his words were very clear about what he considered my personal rights and freedoms (or lack thereof) are over my own body ( Read more... )

I have the feeling that only 1/3 of the new platform was explained. Men and households pets are also expect to be virgins until married. he thinks this will elad to a population decrease. This is the Liberal's new environmental policy. Potato virginity was also discussed, but didn't make it into the final platform.

If this policy ever gets enforced, I'm going to argue it only apply to religions that have legal traditions relating to virginity before marriage. Judaism is not one of those religons - those atitudes towards virginity came to Australian Jews from cultural cross-contamination.

We can argue also, until Abbott eats kosher, we're not willing to worry about virginity, since he is imposing his religous values on us and we haven't had a chance to impose ours on him. Is kashruth the ideal choices, though? What value do you think we should impose?

Now I'm thinking of a raft of values that Tony Abbott must observe (from different groups in Australia) before we take his thoughts on virginity seriously.

I think Tony Abbott should just have to keep his own religious beliefs to himself. We keep getting told this is not a Christian country, let him show that's the case (though he does think this is an Christian country). Judaism is not a religion built around conversion and missionaryism or proselytisation so I don't have any need to impose any of my own personal religious practices on him and I would appreciate he extend me the same courtesy.

I've extended him that privilege for many years. He doesn't realise it's something special, to not have to live other peoples' lives.

One of my friends just asked if Abbott's comment meant that he thinks pre-married men should only have sex with amrried women.

I hate being told this is a Christian country. It says that we're superstitious idiots with a big daddy in the sky. As for the virginity until marriage bit. Good on him. It means he and his party are going to tank at the next election and it puts his credibility just south of the old paedophile in "Family Guy". My theory on guys who demand virginity is that the reason they demand it is this: so that their sex partner has no other man to unfavourably compare them to.

Dude, I feel weird. I am agreeing with every single sentence here.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day ;-). I always figure that telling people how to express their sexuality is like telling them how to breathe. How can you be sure they're doing it the way you demand?

This is very true.

Did he actually say virginity before marriage? Coz I don't think sex before marriage and with someone else is incompatible with the comment as I read it. Of course, he may be horrified by my unChristian way of reading his comments too, but I interpreted it more along the lines of "don't have sex with the first guy who comes along, make sure it's someone who's worth it". Which is not necessarily the same as "don't have sex until you're married", and is even kind of reasonable, especially for someone as loopy as Abbott.

THough I also think your point of view here is completely right. The best thing about Abbott as leader is that the Liberals are now unelectable...

That's where Abbott and his ilk are dangerous. Because he has phrased it in a way where people will try and give him the benefit of the doubt.

It isn't what he meant, and he doesn't think enough of women's agency to ever mean that.

That is sadly likely. Coz Abbott is all kinds of bad.
