Victoire smiled when she saw Teddy standing on the platform waiting for her, his hair in his favorite turquoise color. He’d said he might come, and even though she’d told him he didn’t have to, she was glad that he had. It was the first year since they’d started dating that they wouldn’t be at school together and able to see each other every day.

She left her parents and brothers behind and went over to Teddy with a smile. “You didn’t have to come.”

He took her hand and led her over to a secluded area of the platform. “I wanted to. I won’t get to see you until Christmas.”

“You can see me at the first Hogsmeade visit.”

“That’s still a couple of months away. I won’t get to see you until then.”

“I’ll write to you. It’s not like I’m going to meet someone else and decide I like them better than I like you.”

“I know. I just won’t get to see you all the time like I could before.”

“Well then I’d better give you something to remember me by.” She leaned in and kissed him, wrapping her arms tightly around him. He wrapped his arms around her too. The possibility of a good snogging session had always been a good way to distract him.

They were so intent on saying goodbye to each other that neither of them noticed when her cousin James sidled up to them.

“Hi Teddy! What are you doing?” His question caused Teddy to jump about a foot in the air, without letting go of her.

“I, um, I came to see her off,” Teddy said, embarrassed. She thought he was cute that way, especially when the tips of his hair turned red, like they were doing now.

“You should come for dinner sometime, when I’m home again at Christmas,” James said.

“James,” Teddy said, “go away.” James grinned at them and ran off again.

She started giggling. “I’m sorry,” she said at Teddy’s look, “I can’t help it. The look on your face! And what happens to your hair. I don’t mean to, it’s just so funny.”

“I’m actually not that surprised that he’d do something like that. I think it’s the Weasley part of him.”

“Hey!” She pretended to be offended. “You best not talk like that if you want to see me at Halloween, Teddy Lupin.”

“I like all your Weasley parts,” Teddy said to her with a kiss. “And all your not-Weasley parts too.”

“Okay. You’re forgiven.” She smiled at him. “But if I don’t get on that train in a few minutes, it’ll leave without me and then there will be a lot of Weasleys angry at you.” She kissed him one last time. “I’ll write, don’t worry.”

Back on the main part of the platform, she followed her brothers to the train. “Bye Mum. Bye Dad,” she said as she passed her parents. She saw them share a look.

She waved at the two of them as the train pulled away. She saw Teddy standing at the end of the platform and waved to him, too. It was only nine months, and she’d be busy with her final year of classes. She suspected it would be over before she knew it. Even if it wasn’t, she only had to wait a couple of months until Halloween. She could do that.
