The excitement of the older students was growing. The first Hogsmeade visit was less than two weeks away. Victoire Weasley and her friends were already making plans about where they wanted to visit while they were there.
“Definitely Scrivenshaft’s, I need some new quills and I hear they have a new line of turkey quills. They’re supposed to be sturdier,” Mirabelle was saying on one side of her. She liked her friends, really she did, but sometimes they prattled on about the most pointless and inane things.
She looked up to reach for the salt and noticed Teddy Lupin sneaking glances at her. She smiled at him, and, seeing that he’d been caught, he blushed and ducked his head back down. He was unable to control his nervousness, however, and his hair quickly changed color to match his face, which grew even redder when he realized what had happened.
Snickers from around her told her that some of her friends thought this was funny.
“I think it’s cute,” she said. “Anyway, he can’t help it.”
“Come on, we have to go or we’ll be late for class,” Mirabelle said. Victoire stood up and started to walk out of the Great Hall with her friends. She noticed Teddy get up to leave as well. She made an excuse to her friends about having forgotten something and fell behind them. She pretended to be looking for something in her bag until Teddy caught up to her.
She looked up and smiled at him. “Don’t mind them. They don’t really mean it.”
“I know,” he said. “Um…do you…do you…want to…maybe…and I’ll understand if you don’t…” His hair was turning bright red again, and he was trying to cover it with his hands while looking down at the floor. “Um…what I mean is…do you want to go…with me…”
“Yes,” she interrupted him. “Yes, I’ll go to Hogsmeade with you.”
“Really?” The color started to drain from his hair.
“Yes really.” She took his hands off his head. “And you don’t have to hide that. I like it when that happens.”
He smiled.
She leaned in to kiss his cheek. “And now I have to go to class.” She let go of his hands and turned away, and smiled to herself all the way there.
