Prices for the dentist we went to yesterday:
£15 for a check-up, clean and polish
£45 for check-up, fillings etc, clean and polish
£200 for anything needing lab work - basically, dentures and the like.

NHS drop in centre might be worth considering. I think they can do referrals and stuff there, and may even have ad-hoc dentist cover.

First, catch your NHS dentist.

Then, don't arse about (they'll do that for you). The best thing you can do to reduce the cost of this sort of thing is deal with it before it gets any worse...

FWIW, the NHS Direct website used to have a vaguely useful dentist / emergency dental clinic / etc. finder thing.
