The up-side to needing to renew all that stuff is, as Shiv said, by the time you're done, with any luck, the economy will have taken a turn for the better. At least, that's the sort of thing those of us still in nursing school are telling ourselves about our prospects when we finish. Because the nursing shortage hasn't gone away, only the money to do anything about it.
And you can always work the coffee shop while you're working on all the recerts. ;-)
Here... there is no nursing shortage. It's not funding, it's the fact that the idiots here flooded the market. The year I graduated and the year after were the height of the shortage here. And they opened up 2 more nursing schools in that time, plus increased the number by over double of people allowed into the program I was in.
Yes, there is a shortage throughout much of the US... just not here. And hubby can't do what he does and make the money he does if we move.
Such a bummer.
I am hoping that as the economy slowly improves I'll be able to find something else to do that I love. We'll see.
Idk. As I said, there isn't much out there in the way of work as it is. Unemployment in my state is 10% right now. And with limited hours... how am I going to find something within that time slot?
Lots of things to consider and I've been weighing them all.
But you're right, I need to do something that makes me happy.
I don't know what state you are in, some states are more open to midwifery than others. The other thing you could think of is going back to school -even part time to become a nurse practitioner. They are in demand. Also, consider doing visiting nursing, more experienced nurses are wanted than in hospitals. I was a midwife for many years, but quit due to health reasons, I love my current job, lots of satisfaction. Also, are there jobs in the insurance industry- I did part-time insurance physicals, this is relatively low stress, part time work that you can easily fit into your life, might even fund your writing. Good luck.
I'm in Idaho. I heard back from the state board today, I need to buy a temp license and then I only have to have a preceptor for my first 80hrs, then with a letter of proof, they'll issue me a new license
( ... )
Shame you're not around here... midwives are definitely in shortage. My mate had had her first scan before she was nearing the top of the waiting list!
