Fun-fact: when I was little I loved to make macrame bracelets and necklaces. They were some of the most godawful ugly things you've ever seen, but I wore so many of them that you literally could not see most of my neck or lower arms until they just fell off my body. It is. But I kind of forgot how insanely addicting making them are. Next time you see me I'll be making those beaded lizards too! Argh summer camp, why were your crafts so addicting?!

Macramewikilink! is, basically, fancy knot tying in a pattern to create fabric. Most of what it's used for in our culture is jewelry; usually anything made out of string with knots in it is considered macrame. Classic examples include those embroidery-floss friendship bracelets everyone and their grandmothers has been making lately, and those hemp necklaces with the shells that you always see at the beach. Making macrame was always really popular in summer camps because it was small, inexpensive, and can be used to entertain people for hours.
So yeah. That's macrame in a nutshell. I need to learn to stop being wordy and just give people the damn wikilinks...
