So I totally did the Day 12 portion of the meme without realizing that I hadn't done the Day 11 portion yet. Luckily, I hadn't gotten around to posting it yet. So let's backtrack!

Well here are the first 10 songs that pop up on my shuffle -

1. The Beatles "I Am The Walrus"
2. RENT "Take Me or Leave Me"
3. Glee "Animal" (originally by Neon Trees)
4. Spice Girls "The Lady is a Vamp"
5. Mariah Carey "I Stay In Love"
6. The All-American Rejects "Move Along"
7. TLC "Unpretty"
8. Destiny's Child "Dangerously In Love"
9. Joey McIntyre "Stay the Same"
10. Missy Elliott "Get Ur Freak On"

Huh, that actually did a pretty good job of representing what I listen to! Well, except for the fact that neither Hanson nor Britney Spears shows up on this list, which is weird because there are by far more songs by them than anyone else in my collection.

You have the original 1950s-era recording of Gould doing the Goldberg Variations, right? Richard Powers' The Gold Bug Variations obsesses over that recording and I didn't understand why, and I acquired the 1980s rerecording by mistake and still didn't understand why, and then I found the original recording and understood why everyone obsesses over it.

Finally getting around to answering this--I'm so awesome that I have the complete set, which includes BOTH versions. :-P

Ooh, you are awesome. Have I told you about how i recently acquired performances of the Variations for accordion and for viol consort? (Separate versions, though how awesome would it be if they had both an accordion and a viol consort?).

I'm hard pressed to name a piece of music that is closer to perfection than the Goldberg Variations.
