The Gold Standard

Apr 07, 2011 11:13

I'm decked out in my gold Chelsea boots and gold dissertating ring today. NYC is having that weird in-between Spring weather where it's sunny and warm and then cold and windy and rainy and then something else all in one day. So I'm wearing layers of summer clothing (long dress over cotton stockings, camisole, summer shirt gathered and buttoned at ( Read more... )

Well, this English lady is wearing skinny jeans and a teal coloured seventies style smock top :o)

Interesting- one friend on my flist is an African American trans woman, but I don't know what experience she's had of the situations you mention.

Sadly and as you know from my own experiences with academics researching teh tranz, not all such people respect one's experience and day to day existence :o/

Skinny jeans an a smock top. I wear that too!

And yes, I am well aware. :( Hopefully I can be part of changing that dialogue!

Yes, a nice, modern English lady! ~dies of giggling~ (But that does sound like a fantastic outfit.)

Also, is this just my experience, but do you find that the more Noel-ish an outfit is, the more unsolicited compliments it gets? This amuses me no end.

That's some great feedback on the dissertation, so yay for that! And the food sounds amaaaaaaazing. You're making me hungry. And jealous. *g* But tell me... did the alcoholic milkshakes include Bailey's?

Not only do I get loads of unsolicited compliments, but people who don't know me verbalize their assumptions that I am some sort of visual artist, musician or other performer based on what I'm wearing.

WIN ALL ROUND

The food was delightfully gluttonous. Alas, no Bailey's. But funny you should ask. The bathroom walls were made of blackboard and they leave chalk in a cup on the sink so people can write things. Anticipating that soulsister101 might go into the bathroom, I wrote (hand to heart, no lie):

Ever drink Bailey's from a shoe?

Not bad for a nice modern English lady, eh? :o)

(how do I not have an Old Gregg icon???)

YES, I get that, too! So funny. But I kind of really love it. And whenever I do something with my hair or makeup or outfit that even I think might be too far over the line, that's inevitably when somebody I'd least expect it from (like my great-aunt) will compliment me out of the blue. Go figure!

I am loving that message. That is awesome. :D

No Old Gregg icon? Noooo! You must love him as he loves you. You never know when his icon is going to come in handy.
