Okay I have been wondering how to do something like this for a while and would like to know if it is possible in GIMP.

The only way I know how is to screencap the original source frame-by-frame, then load up the screencaps in order and make an animation. It'd be a pain with that many frames, but it's do-able.

wow... yeah I had heard about that way but I thought there had to be a way to actually put video in it instead to get it so smooth...

There's an animation package option in GIMP, but I don't know much about it.

I'm no expert at using Virtualdub, but it does have an option to capture a film sequence in stills. If you do it, be warned that you will get a massive amount of caps, but it is a shortcut.

It's possible, but not practical, to do this in Gimp. I'd recommend you use video editing software to edit the movie clip, and then convert it to an animated GIF or PNG for publishing.

i'd say virtual dub or DVD2AVI to rip the individual segments...
