Making an animation in GIMP

I am having trouble making an animated .gif. I have Gimp 2.8.

I go to file --> open as layers and open the screenshots I will be using. After I playback what the animation is going to look like, I then go to file --> save as but it will not let me save it as a gif. It tells me to go to file --> export which I do. Faster Animation?

I recently made my first couple GIFS using this to make it and GIMP to edit it. The timing confuses me and I've edited it in the layers tab and I'm quite positive I'm doing something wrong. I don't see a difference if I go 100ms or 10ms. I just would like it to go a little faster.
